A system and method for monitoring performance of a repeated activity is described. The system comprises a motion sensing system and a processing system. The motion sensing system includes sensors configured to measure or track motions corresponding to a repeated activity. The processing system is configured to process motion data received from the motion sensing system to recognize and measure cycle durations in the repeated activity. In contrast to the conventional systems and methods, which may work for repeated activities having a high level of standardization, the system advantageously enables recognition and monitoring of cycle durations for a repeated activity, even when significant abnormal motions are present in each cycle. Thus, the system can be utilized in a significantly broader set of applications, compared conventional systems and methods.

DIAGNOSTIC TOOL BASED HEALTH MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

A point-of-care system with a diagnostic tool and a base station with a display and in communication with the diagnostic tool is described. Used in diagnosing health conditions for a tissue under analysis, the diagnostic tool includes a handle and a head portion. The head portion includes a speculum and optical spectroscopy (OS) data acquisition components positioned within the head portion. The OS data acquisition components are configure to (i) emit light toward the tissue under analysis, (ii) receive light reflected at least in part from the tissue under analysis based on the emitted light, and (iii) determine reflectance spectra associated with the received light. Either the diagnostic tool or a base station includes analytic components configured to (i) generate diagnostic metrics including characteristics of the reflectance spectra and (ii) compare these characteristics to data associated with characteristics of known reflectance spectra associated healthy and/or unhealthy tissue of patients.

The apparatus (201) further comprises a layer of fluid-impermeable dielectric material (212) configured to inhibit a flow of electrical current between the channel member (207) and the gate electrode (211) of the photodetector (203) to enable the electrical conductance of the channel member (207) to be controlled by a voltage applied to the gate electrode (211) and to inhibit exposure of the light emitter (202) to fluid which has permeated through the fluid-permeable substrate (206). The layer of fluid-impermeable dielectric material (212) allows resilient substrates made from polymeric material to be used without the risk of damage to the overlying components caused by the permeated fluid. The dual functionality of the layer of fluid-impermeable dielectric material (212) reduces the number of fabrication steps used to form the apparatus (201) and results in a thinner, more compact device.
