TERAHERTZ WAVE PLETHYSMOGRAPHY
Terahertz wave plethysmography provides a new principle of radar-based vital sign detection. This disclosure presents new applications at terahertz (THz) frequency band for non-contact cardiac sensing. For the first time, cardiac pulse information is shown to be simultaneously extracted based on two established principles using unique THz waves. A novel concept of Terahertz-Wave-Plethysmography (TPG) is introduced, which detects blood volume changes in the upper dermis tissue layer by measuring the reflectance of THz waves, similar to the existing remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) principle. A detailed analysis of pulse measurement using THz is provided. The TPG principle is justified by scientific deduction and carefully designed experimental demonstrations. Additionally, pulse measurements from various peripheral body regions of interest (ROIs), including palm, inner elbow, temple, fingertip, and forehead, are demonstrated using a novel ultra-wideband (UWB) THz sensing system.

The system comprises: one or more sensors configured to generate output signals conveying information related to breathing parameters of subject during a respiratory therapy session; and one or more physical computer processors configured by computer readable instructions to: determine, based on the output signals, one or more breathing features of individual breaths of the subject; determine a distribution of the one or more breathing features over a plurality of time windows, at least one of the time windows having a length of at least 60 seconds; determine sleep states of the subject by mapping the distribution of the breathing features to one or more sleep states using a sleep stage classifier model, the sleep stage classifier model configured to determine the sleep states; and provide feedback indicating the sleep states during the respiratory sleep session.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HUMAN HYDRATION SENSING
A pulse sensor is capable of measuring a pulse rate of a wearer at a peripheral artery. In an embodiment, the pulse sensor includes a magnet supported to move responsive to an arterial pulse and a magnetometer configured to detect changes in a magnetic field produced by the magnet. The magnet may include a plurality of ferromagnetic particles disposed in or on a flexible substrate configured to be held adjacent to human skin subject to arterial palpation and a magnetic sensor configured to sense movement of the ferromagnetic particles. A system and method may measure hydration includes using a pulse sensor to measure pulse rate and modulation. The wearer is prompted when the pulse rate and pulse modulation indicate a response to dehydration of the wearer.

A snoring sound detection apparatus includes one or plural microphones that receive sounds produced by a subject, and a controller including circuitry which converts the sounds produced by the subject to received signals, converts the received signals to sound intensity signals, measures the periodicity of sound intensity signal using one or plural sound intensity signals, evaluates the validity of the periodicity of sound intensity signal in terms of respiratory rate, and detects snoring sound using the sound intensity and the validity of the periodicity of sound intensity signal in terms of respiratory rate.
ORGAN OR TISSUE HEMODYNAMIC AND METABOLIC FUNCTION MEASURED USING SUPER-CONTINUUM LIGHT SOURCES
An apparatus is described for measuring hemodynamic or metabolic function of an organ or tissue region of a subject comprising a super-continuum laser operating in the near or short-wave infrared wavelength range and comprising a multi-stage amplifier. A source fiber delivers the super-continuum emission to the organ or tissue region, and a collection fiber receives reflected emission from the region. A detector followed by a processor is used to determine a metabolic state and an oxygenation state of the organ or tissue region.
