In a handheld device for determining heartbeat/heart rhythm of a user, a method is provided for providing spoken instructions for the user of the device. The method comprises obtaining, over time, via an optical sensor like a camera, a data signal and providing the data signal to an electronic data processor. In the electronic data the processor, determining, based on the signal, a quality factor for the signal. In the electronic data processor, an algorithm is executed for determining a heartbeat using data comprised by the data signal as input. The electronic data processor looks up, from an electronic memory, at least one audio-visual data file comprising data representing audio-visual feedback instructions, based on at least one of the quality factor and the outcome of the execution of the algorithm. A speaker is used to reproduce the audio-visual feedback instructions and aid the user in device placement.

The method includes receiving second data pertaining to a second user, the second data comprises characteristics of the second user. The method includes determining whether at least some of the characteristics of the second user match with at least some of the characteristics of the user, assigning the second user to the first cohort, and selecting, via a trained machine learning model, the treatment plan for the second user, and controlling, based on the treatment plan, the treatment apparatus while the second user uses the treatment apparatus.

The processor is configured to determine if head movement for an action associated with each audio cue has been correctly executed by the wearer, and produce an output indicative of successful or unsuccessful execution of the actions by the wearer.
