System and method for providing auditory guidance in medical systems

An auditory guidance system and method for medical systems and procedures are disclosed. A method for providing auditory guidance during a medical procedure includes selecting a song for playing during the medical procedure. At least a portion of the song is assigned to the medical procedure. Parameter information for at least one parameter associated with the medical procedure is obtained during the medical procedure. The obtained parameter information is compared against predetermined thresholds for each parameter. The portion of the song associated with the parameter information is modified in accordance with the comparison and the modified portion of the song is played to provide auditory guidance during the medical procedure.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SENSING PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

A device and related method for determining a physiological characteristic of a user, the device including a case having a display disposed on a major face of the case, the case containing a motion sensor configured to measure a signal representative of the physiological characteristic of the user when the case is in contact with the user's body, and a processor configured to receive data characteristic of the signal from the motion sensor, process the data from the motion sensor to determine the physiological characteristic, compare the processed data to at least one of a predetermined threshold or a pattern to determine a quality thereof, and provide feedback to the user to suggest an action by the user to improve a quality of the signal measurement, when the determined quality of the processed data is below a quality associated with the predetermined threshold or pattern.

There is provided a hydration state indicator. The hydration state indicator comprises a watertight shell; a semi-permeable membrane configured to permit the passage of water molecules and to block the passage of molecules of at least one solute; a water-absorbent indicator layer enclosed by the shell and the membrane; and output means configured to provide an output. The water-absorbent indicator layer has a predetermined osmotic strength. The volume of at least one part of the indicator layer is variable in dependence on the water content of the indicator layer. The output is variable in dependence on the volume of the at least one part of the indicator layer.

Alignment improvements for ophthalmic diagnostic systems

The present application describes the addition of various feedback mechanisms including visual and audio feedback mechanisms to an ophthalmic diagnostic device to assist a subject to elf align to the device. The device may use the visual and non-visual feedback mechanisms independently or in combination with one another. The device may provide a means for a subject to provide feedback to the device to confirm that an alignment condition has been met. Alternatively, the device may have a means for sensing when Acceptable alignment has been achieved. The device may capture diagnostic information during the alignment process or may capture after the alignment condition has been met.

A device for measuring physical activity of a user during swimming is provided, which includes the following: a sensor unit adapted and dimensioned to be coupled with swimming goggles, wherein the sensor unit includes a motion circuitry configured to measure physical motion of the user; an optical cardiac activity circuitry configured to be placed at least partially against a body tissue of the user and to measure cardiac activity of the user; and a wireless communication circuitry configured to transfer data between the device and at least one external device, wherein the wireless communication circuitry is configured to transfer physical activity data of the user to the at least one external device, and the physical activity data includes at least one of motion data obtained using the motion circuitry, cardiac activity data obtained using the cardiac activity circuitry.

The visual and/or audio stimuli may indicate initialization, diagnostic in progress, completion, or other events or progress of events. A respiratory biofeedback method includes producing a respiratory signal in response to a user's respiratory activity, generating an audio output signal that includes a modified version of the respiratory signal, and converting the audio output signal into sound waves output to the user to provide biofeedback. The sound waves can be output to the user in real time response to the user's respiratory activity. A microphone can be used to generate the respiratory signal. The generated audio output signal can includes the respiratory signal modified to increase a volume level of a portion of the respiratory signal where the volume level exceeds a specified volume level.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR QUANTITATIVE COLORIMETRIC CAPNOMETRY

Quantitative colorimetric carbon dioxide detection and measurement systems are disclosed. The systems can include a gas conduit, a colorimetric indicator adapted to exhibit a color change in response to exposure to carbon dioxide gas, a temperature controller operatively coupled to the colorimetric indicator and configured to control the temperature of the colorimetric indicator, an electro-optical sensor assembly including a light source or sources adapted to transmit light to the colorimetric indicator, and a photodiode or photodiodes configured to detect light reflected from the colorimetric indicator and to generate a measurement signal, and a processor in communication with the electro-optical sensor assembly. The processor can be configured to receive the measurement signal generated by the electro-optical sensor assembly and to compute a concentration of carbon dioxide based on the measurement signal. Methods for using the systems are also disclosed including providing a breathing therapy to a patient or user.
