Animated Firefly Novelty Device
An indoor-outdoor novelty device which simulates the flight and illumination patterns of real fireflies in dark conditions. The device provides the illusion of a flying illuminated firefly, appearing and disappearing at pseudorandom positions. This behavior provides a realistic firefly effect especially when multiple devices are present. This effect is due to the unique configuration of this device under microcontroller control. The device may be configured as completely self-contained, self-operating and self-charging; not requiring user intervention for daily operation and can be located indoors or outdoors.

An output controller obtains a pair of safety state inputs, and, at each of a first microcontroller and the second microcontroller determines whether the pair of safety state inputs both show an unasserted state. Responsive to determining that the pair of safety state inputs both show an unasserted state, the output controller determining a normal state, and otherwise the output controller determines a safe state. The output controller outputs a binary software command reflecting either a normal state or a safe state, and converts the binary software command to a hardware command that maintains the state of voltage of a circuit where the binary software command reflects a normal state and otherwise switches to a safe state. The controller compares readback output values from the two microcontrollers, and generates an output therefrom.

A system for automated equipment cabinet leveling may include a foot leveling device for each foot of an equipment cabinet, each foot leveling device comprising a drive gear and a worm gear; a motor for each foot leveling device, each motor driving the worm gear of one of the foot leveling devices; a controller controlling the operation of each motor; and a sensor positioned on a portion of the equipment cabinet to be leveled that detects an orientation of the equipment cabinet and provides orientation data to the controller. The foot leveling device may interface with a foot shaft of the cabinet foot by a drive shaft driven by the drive gear, and the controller may drive at least one of motors to level the surface of the equipment cabinet based on the orientation data by extending or retracting at least one of the cabinet feet.
