Ultrasonic surgical drill, assembly and associated surgical method
11324531 · 2022-05-10 · ·

A medical drill assembly includes a probe connectable at a proximal end to an electromechanical transducer for generating mechanical vibration of an ultrasonic frequency. The probe has a shaft with a central lumen or channel, the shaft being formed at a distal end with a head having a tapered distal side. A source of pressurized liquid communicates with the lumen or channel of the probe, and a translatory or linear drive is operatively connected to the probe for applying a distally directed force to the probe. A controller is operatively connected to the translatory or linear drive for periodically at least reducing the magnitude of the distally directed force.

SURGICAL IMPACT DRIVER ADAPTORS FOR APPLYING DIRECTED TORQUE AND LINEAR IMPACT LOADS DURING SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Surgical impact driver adaptors may be connected between a powered surgical instrument and a driven surgical device when performing surgical procedures, such as those involving the implantation of a surgical implant into bone, for example. During surgical procedures, the surgical impact driver adaptors may limit a transfer of a rotational force from the powered surgical instrument to the surgical device until a sufficient axial force is applied to the impact driver adaptor from the powered surgical instrument.

ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS

An arthroscopic system includes a re-useable, sterilizable handle integrated with a single umbilical cable or conduit. The single umbilical cable or conduit carries electrical power from a power and/or control console to the handle for operating both a motor drive unit within the handle and delivering the RF power to a disposable RF probe or cutter which may be detachably connected to the handle. The RF power delivered to the handle and on to the probe or cutter is typically bi-polar, where the handle includes first and second electrical bi-polar contacts that couple to corresponding bi-polar electrical contacts on a hub of the disposable RF probe or cutter is connected to the handle.

Arthroscopic devices and methods

A tissue treatment device has a shaft assembly including an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve. The inner sleeve is co-axially and rotatably received in an axial passageway in the outer sleeve. A dielectric housing has an outer cutting window forming a distal portion of the outer sleeve, and a distal portion of the inner sleeve forms an RF electrode and has an inner cutting window formed therein. The outer and inner cutting windows have outer and inner cutting edges disposed to close together as the inner sleeve is rotated relative to the outer sleeve.

Measurement module for measuring depth of bore holes and related accessories

A drill bit comprises a shank extending along an axis and an interface comprising at least one outermost drive portion spaced at a first interface distance from the axis. The drill bit further comprises a resilient arm extending from a proximal end of the shank. The resilient arm comprises an outer arm surface facing away from the axis and a retention surface facing toward a distal end of the shank. The retention surface may be radially aligned about the axis with respect to the outermost drive portion. The resilient arm is movable between: a first position where the outer arm surface is spaced from the axis at a first arm distance greater than the first interface distance, and a second position where the outer arm surface is spaced from the axis at a second arm distance less than or equal to the first interface distance.

Surgical instrument comprising an end effector dampener

A surgical instrument comprising a shaft, an end effector, and an articulation joint is disclosed. The end effector is rotatably connected to the shaft about the articulation joint, wherein the end effector is rotatable between a first orientation and a second orientation, wherein the shaft comprises a longitudinal axis and the end effector comprises a tissue gap, wherein the tissue gap faces the longitudinal axis when the end effector is in its first orientation, and wherein the tissue gap extends at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis when the end effector is in its second orientation. The surgical instrument further comprises an articulation drive system configured to articulate the end effector relative to the shaft and a dampener configured to prevent the end effector from being back-driven from its second orientation into its first orientation.

A cutting bur assembly including a cutting head with a head shaft extending therefrom. The cutting head and the head shaft are rotatable by a motor. A tube with the head shaft is rotatably mounted therein. The head shaft extends out from within the tube to locate the cutting head beyond a distal end of the tube. A plurality of bearing rollers are in direct cooperation with an outer surface of the head shaft such that upon rotation of the head shaft the plurality of bearing rollers roll along the outer surface. An outer bearing race surrounds the plurality of bearing rollers and the head shaft to retain the plurality of bearing rollers in cooperation with the head shaft.
