SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATING ULTRASONIC AND ELECTROSURGICAL FUNCTIONALITY
A surgical instrument end effector assembly includes a first jaw member and a second jaw member. The second jaw member includes an ultrasonic blade body and first and second electrodes disposed on either side of the ultrasonic blade body and extending longitudinally along a majority of a length of the ultrasonic blade body. The ultrasonic blade body is adapted to receive ultrasonic energy from an ultrasonic waveguide. The first and second electrodes taper in width proximally to distally and are adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy. The first jaw member is movable relative to the second jaw member between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position for grasping tissue therebetween.
HAIR CUTTING DEVICE AND HAIR CUTTING SYSTEM
A hair cutting device according to the present disclosure comprises an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide comprises a light irradiator for irradiating hair protruding from a skin with light to cut the hair. At least at a time of cutting the hair, a power density of light passing through the optical waveguide is more than or equal to 50 kW/cm.sup.2. This makes it easy to efficiently cut hair with light with which the light irradiator irradiates the hair. That is, it is possible to apply sufficient light energy for cutting the hair from the optical waveguide to the hair, and it is possible to cut the hair in a relatively short time. Therefore, for example, a width increases such as a thickness or hardness of hair that can be cut.
ELECTROSURGICAL DEVICE
Example electrosurgical devices and systems are disclosed. An example electrosurgical device includes a body, an electrosurgical electrode secured to the body, the electrosurgical electrode including a distal tip. The electrosurgical device also includes a shroud translatable relative to the electrosurgical electrode between a first position and a second position, a first magnetic component which is operably connected to the body, and a second magnetic component which is operably connected to the shroud, wherein the first and second magnetic components magnetically interact to releasably maintain the shroud in the first position.
Surgical instruments incorporating ultrasonic and electrosurgical functionality
A surgical instrument end effector assembly includes a first jaw member defining an insulative tissue-contacting surface and first and second electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces disposed on either side of the insulative surface. A second jaw member of the end effector assembly includes an ultrasonic blade body positioned to oppose the insulative surface of the first jaw member, and first and second electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces disposed on either side of the ultrasonic blade body and positioned to oppose the first and second electrically-conductive surfaces, respectively, of the first jaw member. The first jaw member is movable relative to the second jaw member between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position to grasp tissue therebetween. The first and second electrically-conductive surfaces of the second jaw member are movable, independent of the first jaw member, relative to the first jaw member and the ultrasonic blade body between a retracted position and an extended position.
MEDICAL RF APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME
A medical RF apparatus using an RF pulse and a method of controlling the medical RF apparatus are provided. The medical RF apparatus includes an RF generator, which generates a test pulse for detecting characteristics of tissue, a monitoring unit, which monitors the change in the information on the tissue state while the test pulse is transmitted to the tissue, and a measurement unit, which determines the tissue characteristics of a patient by comparing the values monitored in the monitoring unit with the reference data.
NOVEL 'ELECTRICAL LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM' TO DETECT ABNORMAL CONDUCTION WITHIN A CATHETER IN THE PRESENCE OF ELECTRICAL INTERFERERS
A system, method and leak signal discriminator for detection of a leak or mechanical breach in a catheter shaft in the presence of an electrical interferer are disclosed. According to one aspect, a leak signal discriminator having a leak detection circuit is configured to distinguish between a leak signal arising from a leak in a catheter and an interfering signal arising from an electrical interferer. The leak signal discriminator includes circuitry configured to receive from the leak detection circuit a response signal responsive to a test signal the test signal having component signals, each component signal being at a different frequency, and distinguish between a leak and an electrical interferer based at least in part on an evaluation of the response signal
ENERGY ACTIVATION SWITCH FOR VESSEL SEALER
An endoscopic surgical forceps includes a housing having a shaft extending therefrom with an end effector operably coupled thereto. The end effector includes first and second jaw members movable relative to one another between open and closed positions. A first handle is pivotably coupled to the housing and is movable relative to a second handle disposed on the housing, the first handle configured to actuate the jaw members between the open and closed positions upon movement thereof relative to the second handle. A trigger is operably coupled to the housing and is configured to deploy a knife between the first and second jaw members upon actuation thereof. An energy activation switch is coupled to an electrosurgical energy source such that activation thereof supplies energy to the first and second jaw members, the energy activation switch is disposed on the trigger.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT COMPRISING A ROTATION-DRIVEN AND TRANSLATION-DRIVEN TISSUE CUTTING KNIFE
A surgical instrument comprising a rotatable and translatable firing member is disclosed.
SURGICAL SYSTEMS CONFIGURED TO COOPERATIVELY CONTROL END EFFECTOR FUNCTION AND APPLICATION OF THERAPEUTIC ENERGY
Disclosed is a surgical system for tissue treatment using therapeutic energy and stapling.
Electrosurgical forceps
An electrosurgical forceps includes first and second shaft members pivotably coupled to one another such that pivoting of the first and second shaft members between spaced-apart and approximated positions pivots jaw members thereof between open and closed positions. A proximal end portion of the second shaft member may be pivoted against a resilient bias of a spring element to apply a predetermined clamping pressure on tissue and ultimately engage an activation switch to delivery electrosurgical energy to the clamped tissue.
