THERMAL SYSTEM WITH OVERSHOOT REDUCTION

A thermal control unit for controlling a patient's temperature includes a fluid outlet for delivering temperature-controlled fluid to a patient, a pump, a heat exchanger, and a controller that automatically pauses thermal treatment of the patient prior the patient reaching a target temperature. During the pause, the controller assesses a reaction of the patient and changes a temperature of the fluid only inside the thermal control unit if the patient is likely to reach the target temperature without further thermal treatment. However, if the patient is unlikely to reach the target temperature without further thermal treatment, the controller restarts the thermal treatment. The controller may pause thermal treatment again prior to reaching the target temperature and assess the patient's reaction. In some embodiments, the controller may selectively include and exclude a fluid reservoir in a circulation channel within the thermal control unit.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING A MULTI-PROBE INTEGRATED ELECTROTHERMAL MODULES (ETMS) DEVICE FOR TUMOR ABLATION

Systems and methods for tumor ablation with controlled precision of a temperature profile utilizing a tumor ablation probe device may include disposing a distal end of the tumor ablation probe device in a tissue, the distal end including a plurality of electrothermal modules (ETMs) on probe arm(s), each ETM including a first surface component electrically connected to a second surface component; supplying a first voltage of a first polarity or a second voltage of a second polarity to at least one ETM, and repeatedly alternating between the first polarity and the second polarity based on a time sequence cycle. When the first polarity is supplied, the ETM heats the first surface component and cools the second surface component, and when the second polarity is supplied, the ETM cools the first surface component and heats the second surface component. Each ETM and/or probe arm is configured for independent control.

CRYOSURGICAL PROBE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF

A cryoprobe for cryotherapy, includes a working and a drain tube, welded together. The working tube has a first end, a distal end, an internal surface, an external surface, an inner diameter, and an outer diameter. The drain tube is placed concentrically in the working tube, and has an internal surface, an external surface, an inner diameter, an outer diameter, a first end connected to a first pressure supply, and a perforated second end which is proximate to the distal end of the working tube. The drain tube is welded to the working tube between the internal surface of the working tube and the external surface of the drain tube to manufacture a throttle perforation, in a manner which allows fluid to pass along the outer surface of the drain tube, expand at the distal end of the working tube, and drain through the drain tube.

Cryocatheter with single phase coolant fluid cooled thermoelectric module and cerebral medical procedures employing local ice ball

Cryocatheter including an elongated flexible catheter member having a short rigid catheter tip for introduction into a therapy site and a heat exchange arrangement for freezing the catheter tip to a cryo-temperature from between about −15° C. to about −30° C. for freezing human tissue at the therapy site. Cerebral medical procedures include inter alia employing a local ice ball for sealing a bleeding rupture in an arterial wall in the case of a stroke hemorrhage, employing a local ice ball for mapping electrical disorder foci in a brain, for example, epileptic foci, and the like.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR INTRA-CARDIAC MAPPING AND ABLATION

An intra-cardiac mapping system is based on locating the ports through which blood flows in or out the heart chambers. For many procedures, such as ablation to cure atrial fibrillation, locating the pulmonary veins and the mitral valve accurately allows to perform a Maze procedure. The location of the ports and valves is based on using the convective cooling effect of the blood flow. The mapping can be performed by a catheter-deployed expandable net or a scanning catheter. The same net or catheter can also perform the ablation procedure.

Cryotherapy device and method for the treatment of cervical precancerous lesions

A device for providing a cryotherapy ablation treatment includes a piping assembly and a snow horn adapted to create a spray of snow from a pressurized source of a low-temperature liquid, a tubular applicator for collecting a mass of snow at a prescribed density that is sufficient to allow the mass to serve as the needed, low temperature, thermal reservoir for the device after the applicator's distal end has been disconnected from the snow horn end so that it can to be used during the treatment process, and an applicator tip adapted to allow it to connect to the applicator's distal end and be used to treat those specific locations which are to receive this treatment.

IMPLANTABLE PROBE FOR LOCALIZED COOLING

A probe intended to be at least partially implanted in a living being, with a view to locally cooling at least one region of the living being, this probe notably including a cooling member present at its distal end, which member is intended to make contact with the region to be cooled, and a thermoelectric cooling module including a cold region making contact with the cooling member.

A surgical system includes a surgical instrument and a cooling module operably coupled to the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument includes a housing and an elongated portion extending from the housing and supporting an end effector. The cooling module includes a fluid reservoir retaining a cooling fluid, a thermoelectric cooler, and a pump assembly. The thermoelectric cooler has a first portion thermally coupled to the fluid reservoir and a second portion including a plurality of fins dissipating heat therefrom. The pump assembly is configured to supply the cooling fluid through at least a portion of the surgical instrument and back to the fluid reservoir, thereby defining a flow path to cool the end effector of the surgical instrument.

Method and apparatus for cryogenic treatment of skin tissue

Cosmetic method and apparatus are provided that can provide cooling and/or freezing of skin tissue proximal to the skin surface to generate an appearance of lightening or reduced pigmentation in the skin. The skin can be cooled to a temperature of less than about −5 degrees Celsius for a duration of about one minute or less, using a plurality of cooled contact surfaces, each having a width between about 2 mm and about 20 mm.
