A vitals monitoring handcuff apparatus comprising a housing structure that is adapted to be coupled with a set of handcuffs and to contain a plurality of modules and units; a first module that is located within the housing structure and adapted to measure a wearer's heartrate via a sensor; a second module that is located within the housing structure and is adapted to measure the wearer's respiration rate via a sensor; a controller unit that is located within the housing structure, is configured to relay instructional programs to the modules and units which causes the modules and units to operate, and the controller unit receives data from the modules and inputs that data into associated algorithms that produce corresponding output signals; a communication unit that is located within the housing structure and receives the output signals from the controller unit and is adapted to relay the output signals to a user; and a rechargeable power unit located within the housing structure that is accessed by a port on an exterior of the housing structure, provides power to the vitals monitoring handcuff apparatus's other modules and units, and having a receiver which connects with an exterior power source via the port.

Digital-based medical devices

A skin measuring microscope includes a housing, an electronic imager disposed along an imaging axis, and an illumination system. The illumination system includes a plurality of LEDs disposed in a ring-like configuration adjacent a distal end of the housing.

ILLUMINATED DUAL-BLADE RETRACTOR

A portable dual-blade retractor comprising a handle having a first end and a second end, a first blade extending from the first end of the handle, a second blade extending from the second end of the handle, and an illumination assembly including (a) one or more first direct light sources provided on the first blade and (b) one or more second direct light sources provided on the second blade, wherein the first and second direct light sources are individually controlled.

Breath analysis system, device and method employing nanoparticle-based sensor

A system is provided that includes a portable measurement device for measuring acetone in a breath sample of a user. The measurement device comprises a housing, a user-direct breath input device for engaging in direct fluid communication with a respiratory tract of the user and receiving the breath sample from the respiratory tract, a flow path disposed within the housing, a nanoparticle-based sensor disposed in the housing in fluid communication with the flow path and at an intermediate location between the upstream end and the downstream end, and a flow control device disposed in the housing and in the flow path between the upstream end and the nanoparticle-based sensor that prevents flow of the breath sample in an upstream direction opposite the downstream direction.

Consolidated user interface for modular energy system

A modular energy system including a header module configured to removably connect to an energy module. The energy module can comprise a port configured to deliver one or more energy modalities to a surgical instrument connected thereto. The header module can comprise a display screen configured to display a user interface. The header module can further include a control circuit configured to detect attachment of energy modules to the modular energy system and control the display of the user interface to display UI portions for each connected module and reconfigure the displayed UI portions to accommodate the new UI portions as additional energy modules are connected to the modular energy system.

Continuous biomechanical energy harvester from breath-associated torso movement

A system, device and method are provided for continuously generating more than 0.01 watt of electrical energy by harnessing mechanical or kinetic energy from a reciprocating motion of a user's torso during breathing. The reciprocating motion causes reciprocating lateral and medial translation of two chambers of the device housing. That reciprocating lateral and medial translation rotates a gear, which in turn, drives a dynamo to produce electrical energy. Since the conversion from the mechanical energy of the spinning rod to power is direct, the energy-conversion efficiency may be up to 90% or higher. The device may further comprise one or more charging means for providing electrical energy to one or more peripheral electronic devices. In some embodiments, additional integrated functions may include auxiliary energy storage, backup energy, emergency power, mini-MP3 player, data recorder, GPS interface, miniature video recorder, speaker, abdomen muscle exercise, timing, Bluetooth interface, and heath information analyzer.

Arrhythmia detection with feature delineation and machine learning

Techniques are disclosed for using both feature delineation and machine learning to detect cardiac arrhythmia. A computing device receives cardiac electrogram data of a patient sensed by a medical device. The computing device obtains, via feature-based delineation of the cardiac electrogram data, a first classification of arrhythmia in the patient. The computing device applies a machine learning model to the received cardiac electrogram data to obtain a second classification of arrhythmia in the patient. As one example, the computing device uses the first and second classifications to determine whether an episode of arrhythmia has occurred in the patient. As another example, the computing device uses the second classification to verify the first classification of arrhythmia in the patient. The computing device outputs a report indicating that the episode of arrhythmia has occurred and one or more cardiac features that coincide with the episode of arrhythmia.
