INTERFACE SIZING TOOL AND METHOD
A method and apparatus can be used in the selection of correctly sized respiratory interfaces. The method includes the use of light beams to project sizing markers onto a patient's face, which enables the size of the patient's facial features to be measured relative to a set of interface sizes. A sizing apparatus can include a light source and beam splitters that will refract and project the light source into a series of beams that can be aligned on a patient's face in order to measure the features of the patient.
PORTABLE DIAGNOSTIC MEASUREMENT DEVICE FOR DETERMINING ANALYTICAL PARAMETER OF BODY FLUID
Disclosed herein are portable diagnostic measurement devices for determining at least one analysis parameter of a bodily fluid, in particular for determining an analyte concentration in a bodily fluid as can occur in blood glucose determinations. Also disclosed are analysis systems including the measurement device and at least one disposable test element. The test element can be designed as a carrier strip and can contact a receiving surface of the measurement device at least partially in a flat manner, where the receiving surface is arranged on a narrow side of the housing of the measurement device.
Multi-function dermatological biopsy instrument
A method for effecting a dermatological biopsy procedure and a hand-held instrument for use in such procedure. The instrument has a pen-like housing with an aperture and a biopsy site marker. A syringe for dispensing an anesthetic to a selected marked biopsy site on a patient's skin and a biopsy-sampling blade such as a skin punch or scraper and a wound closure device for closing the biopsy wound with a suture, adhesive or cauterant are contained within the housing. The aperture of the instrument is placed directly against the marked biopsy site and the syringe, biopsy blade and wound closure device are controlled to alternately extend and retract through the aperture and operatively effect anesthetic dispensing, biopsy sampling and wound closure.
Method and System for Preventing Virus-Related Obesity and Obesity Related Diseases
A method for preventing obesity related to infection by an adipogenic adenovirus includes obtaining a sample from a person, assaying the sample to determine whether the person has been previously infected with an adipogenic adenovirus, and if the person has not been previously infected, providing the person with at least one sensor positioned to detect when a person's hand approaches a predetermined distance from the person's face. By warning the person of undesired hand-to-face contacts, the person is able to reduce the incidence of obesity related infections. Other embodiments are directed to a kit for preventing obesity caused by infection with an adipogenic adenovirus, such kit including a container for assaying an agent indicating the presence of antibodies to Ad-36, and a sensor positioned on an item selected from the group consisting of one of a hat, a writing instrument, eye glasses, a belt, sunglasses, a bra, a shirt, and a tie.
DETERMINING STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISITCS OF AN OBJECT
The present invention relates generally to a system and method for measuring the structural characteristics of an object. The object is subjected to an energy application processes and provides an objective, quantitative measurement of structural characteristics of an object. The system may include a device, for example, a percussion instrument, capable of being reproducibly placed against the object undergoing such measurement for reproducible positioning. The system does not include an external on/off switch or any remote on/off switching mechanism. The system also includes a disposable feature or assembly for minimizing cross-contamination between tests. The structural characteristics as defined herein may include vibration damping capacities, acoustic damping capacities, structural integrity or structural stability.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SENSING CIRCULATORY HEALTH
A probe with a blood circulation sensor and a force or pressure sensor is placed against a patient. One part of the probe applies a force to another part of the probe which is pressed against the patient at one or more locations. The variation of a measure of blood circulation is recorded as a function of the applied pressure, thereby giving the operator a specific knowledge of the Tissue Perfusion Pressure (TPP), a measure of circulatory health, at each location.
Circumferential electrode array for tissue ablation
An electrode array supports multiple electrodes and energizes them so that adjacent electrodes do not have the same polarity. In one embodiment, the electrodes are held about a circumference outside and surrounding a tumor and opposed electrodes are energized in a round robin fashion to promote current flow through the center of the tumor from a variety of angles.

Miniature ECG Data Acquisition Device
An apparatus for generating ECG recordings and a method for using the same are disclosed. The apparatus includes a handheld device having four electrodes on an outer surface thereof, the handheld device having an extended configuration and a storage configuration. The apparatus also includes a controller configured to measure signals between the electrodes to provide signals that are used to generate an ECG recording selected from the group consisting of standard lead traces and precordial traces. When the handheld device is in the extended configuration and the first and second electrodes contact a first hand of a patient such that the first and second electrodes contact different locations on the first hand, the third electrode is in contact with a location on the patient's other hand and the fourth electrode contacts a point on the patient's body that depends on the particular trace being measured.
Hand-held measuring device
Described is a hand-held measuring device 1 for measuring the pH value of wounds at a measuring point, wherein the hand-held measuring device 1 comprises a housing 2, a removable protective case 5 which at least partially encloses the housing 2, and a detection and evaluation unit constructed of at least two elements 6, 7, 9. The evaluation unit is designed to process the measured signals detected by the detection unit. At least one element 7 of the detection and evaluation unit is arranged in or on the housing 2 and at least one element 6, 9 of the detection and evaluation unit is designed as a component of the protective case 5.
