System recovery using a failover processor
Techniques for system recovery using a failover processor are disclosed. A first processor, with a first instruction set, is configured to execute operations of a first type; and a second processor, with a second instruction set different from the first instruction set, is configured to execute operations of a second type. A determination is made that the second processor has failed to execute at least one operation of the second type within a particular period of time. Responsive to determining that the second processor has failed to execute at least one operation of the second type within the particular period of time, the first processor is configured to execute both the operations of the first type and the operations of the second type.
Memory system and data processing system including the same
A memory system and a data processing system including the memory system may manage a plurality of memory devices. For example, the data processing system may categorize and analyze error information from the memory devices, acquire characteristic data from the memory devices and set operation modes of the memory devices based on the characteristic data, allocate the memory devices to a host workload, detect a defective memory device among the memory devices and efficiently recover the defective memory device.
Back-up and restoration of register data
A system includes: a processor; a register configured to store a plurality of words, non-volatile memory having a plurality of cells, each cell corresponding to one of the words of the register, and wherein the each cell of the plurality of cells are set to an initial reset value; a first controller that in response to a loss in power: determines the word stored by the register; and changes the initial reset value of the cell of the non-volatile memory corresponding to the determined word stored by the register to a set value; a second controller that in response to detecting a restoration in power: identifies the cell having the set value; writes the word corresponding to the identified cell to the register; and resets the cells of the non-volatile memory to the initial reset value.
Operation method of storage device, and operation method of storage system including host device and storage device
An operation method of a storage device configured to communicate with an external device through an interface channel includes receiving an indicator of a first throttling level of a plurality of throttling levels from the external device, setting a first operation parameter based on a throttling predefined table (PDT) including a relationship between the plurality of throttling levels and a plurality of throttling performances, such that the interface channel has a first throttling performance from among the plurality of throttling performances, the first throttling performance corresponding to the first throttling level, receiving a first input/output (I/O) request from the external device through the interface channel having the first throttling performance caused by the setting of the first operation parameter, and processing a first operation corresponding to the first I/O request through the interface channel having the first throttling performance.
TECHNIQUES FOR LIF PLACEMENT IN SAN STORAGE CLUSTER SYNCHRONOUS DISASTER RECOVERY
Improved techniques for disaster recover within storage area networks are disclosed. Embodiments include replicating a LIF of a primary cluster on a secondary cluster. LIF configuration information is extracted from the primary cluster. A peer node from a secondary cluster is located. One or more ports are located on the located peer node that match a connectivity of the LIF from the primary cluster. One or more ports are identified based upon one or more filtering criteria to generate a candidate port list. A port from the candidate port list is selected based at least upon a load of the port. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Scale-out storage system and storage control method
A scale-out storage system includes a plurality of computer nodes each of which has a memory and a processor, and a storage apparatus. The computer nodes have one or more redundancy groups each of which is a group for metadata protection. Each of the one or more redundancy groups includes two or more of the computer nodes including a primary node being a primary computer node and a secondary node being a secondary computer node, and a failover is performed from the primary node to the secondary node. The memory of the primary node has stored therein metadata related to the redundancy group and to be accessed for control. The metadata is redundantly stored in the memory of the primary node and the memory of the secondary node.
Reducing recovery time of an application
Examples provided herein describe a method for reducing recovery time for an application. For example, a first physical processor of a computing device may monitor, based on a first application instance of the application running in a first mode, for failure detection of the first application instance running on a first computing device. The first physical processor may determine that the first application instance is to be changed from the first mode to a second mode. Based on the determination, the first physical processor may validate that a second application instance can run in the first mode by performing a data integrity compliance check. Responsive to validating that the second application instance can run in the first mode, the first physical processor may facilitate running of the second application instance in the first mode.
VIRTUAL MACHINE FAULT TOLERANCE
System and method for providing fault tolerance in virtualized computer systems use a first guest and a second guest running on virtualization software to produce outputs, which are produced when a workload is executed on the first and second guests. An output of the second guest is compared with an output of the first guest to determine if there is an output match. If there is no output match, the first guest is paused and a resynchronization of the second guest is executed to restore a checkpointed state of the first guest on the second guest. After the resynchronization of the second guest, the paused first guest is caused to resume operation.
MIGRATION SUPPORT METHOD AND SYSTEM
As a function equivalent to a first check point restart (CPR) section (CPR function) of a mainframe system, a second CPR section is implemented in an open system. When the mainframe system executes each of job steps that form a job to be migrated from the mainframe system to the open system, the first CPR section outputs a job journal, and when the open system executes the job step migrated from the mainframe system, the second CPR section outputs a job journal, followed by comparison between the outputted job journals.
Software update device, software update method, and software update system
A software update device is connected to a control device and includes an update control unit executing an update process of causing software for the control device to transit from a non-updated state to a completely updated state, a recovery control information managing unit acquiring recovery control information, and a recovery control unit executing a recovery process of causing the software to transit to the completely updated state on a basis of the recovery control information in a case where an abnormality in the update process has prevented the software from transiting to the completely updated state.
