An adjustable prosthesis system for a residual limb includes: an adjustable outer shell surrounding the residual limb having a plurality of overlapping flaps, a top opening along a top edge extending around the outer shell, a bottom having a bottom edge opposite the top edge and extending around the bottom, a first side, and a second side having an adjustable width, and a plurality of adjustable overlapping side ends, some of which overlap and some do not, extending from the top edge to the bottom edge; a base adjacent the bottom of the outer shell and connected to it; and a closure component attached to the outer shell to compress the residual limb. Tightening the closure component applies a pulling force to at least one of the first side and the second side, thereby causing a reduction in width of a discontinuity and increased overlap of the side ends.

PROSTHETIC FOOT WITH SWITCHABLE WALKING AND JOGGING MODES

A prosthetic foot includes a foot portion and a switching adapter. The switching adapter includes a first member coupled to the foot portion, a second member, a third member interposed between the first member and the second member, and a locking mechanism. The third member has a first side wall and a second side wall larger in length than the first side wall. The third member is configured to rotate relative to the first member and the second member towards a first position, thereby placing the prosthetic device in a walking mode. The third member is further configured to rotate relative to the first member and the second member towards a second position, thereby placing the prosthetic device in a running mode. The locking mechanism is configured to rotate with the third member in response to rotation of the third member.

LOCKING PROSTHETIC KNEE AND CORE COMPONENTS THEREFOR

A prosthetic knee can include a variable-torque magnetorheological (MR) actuator assembly or braking system, a frame and an electronics assembly or system that also serves as a mount for the knee actuator and facilitates in monitoring and controlling the operation of the knee actuator. The prosthetic knee system advantageously provides resistive forces to substantially simulate the position and motion of a natural knee joint during ambulation and/or other locomotory activities performed by the amputee. The prosthetic knee can have a series of internal blades for providing resistive forces. A locking ratchet can be used to lock knee position. A dynamic seal with a protective shim can be disposed in the knee actuator. A coil with a non-circular cross-section can be used.

Prosthetic hydraulic joint with accumulator and methods for controlling joint

A prosthetic foot assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes a pivoting ankle joint with a hydraulic system, a prosthetic foot connected to the distal side of the ankle joint, and, at the proximal side, the ankle joint includes a transducer with pyramid adaptor for attaching to a pylon. The ankle joint sensor provides data collection during the stance and optionally, the swing, phases of walking using, for example, strain gages and accelerometers. Also disclosed are methods for real-time feature extraction. Key parameters are captured to which are applied linear, fuzzy logic, neural net, or generic algorithms to determine current state (walking flat, uphill, downhill etc.) in real time and execute changes to the angle between the ankle and foot almost instantaneously based on those parameters.

Prosthesis for femoral amputee

A hinged connecting device comprising a damping mechanism intended to counter a predetermined resistance at least during bending of the prosthesis (1), by replacing the muscle groups usually used for this purpose. The damping mechanism (200) is capable of being switched between a first operating mode (M1), selected by default, in which the value of the resistance corresponds to a first maximum value (Vmax), and a second operating mode (M2), that can be actuated only in a hyperextension position (P0) of the prosthesis (1), in which the resistance value corresponds to a second minimum value (Vmin); and the hinged connecting device (2) moreover comprises a fully mechanical locking system (3), arranged in order to allow the second operating mode (M2) to be activated only when the inclination of the tibial part (102) exceeds a first predetermined oriented angle (X1) relative to the vertical.

PROSTHETIC FOOT COMPONENT

A prosthetic apparatus and system for a trans-tibial amputee consisting of a post-operative interface socket that can be adjusted to accommodate the size of an amputated limb and changes in size of the limb. The prosthetic apparatus includes a lower socket into which the post-operative socket can be inserted, the lower socket being adjustable for changes in size of the post-operative interface socket. The post-operative socket also has a removable upper back shell that immobilizes movement of the knee during an initial recovery phase but can be removed to allow the knee of the amputee to flex.

THERMALLY RESPONSIVE SHAPE MEMORY POLYMER ACTUATOR, PROSTHESIS INCORPORATING SAME, AND FABRICATION METHOD

A thermally responsive shape memory polymer (SMP) actuator includes a body having at least one non-linear segment arranged between first and second ends, with the body comprising a plurality of dots, rods, or layers of SMP material. The SMP material my include a linear aliphatic thermoplastic polyester and at least one other polymer. The non-linear segment may have a substantially flat zig-zag shape arranged between first and second substantially straight segments. A prosthetic device may include multiple thermally responsive shape memory actuators and a movable joint arranged between structural members having anchors associated therewith. At least one first SMP actuator provides pivotal movement in a first direction, and at least one second SMP actuator provides pivotal movement in a second direction. Methods for forming SMP actuators include body formation by additive manufacturing, heating the body to a glass transition temperature range while applying tension, and cooling the body.

Robust Adaptable Foot Prosthesis

A device is provided to allow adaptation of a prosthetic or robotic foot in the medial-lateral direction, including pronation and supination of the foot using a series of articulations. Articulations are permitted in the disclosed device due to linkage systems positioned at various locations of the prosthetic foot. In particular, the device includes multiple connected linkage systems each including upper and lower portions with an articulating contact surface designed for load carriage and stability. The point of contact between the contact surfaces of each linkage system comprises the position-dependent instantaneous center of rotation of the upper portion with respect to the lower portion.
