In embodiments, the present invention provides a method and system for managing playback of content delivered to a mobile device with a pause and resume functionality. The method and system including receiving delivered content on a mobile device, initiating playback of the delivered content, pausing playback of the content being delivered to the mobile device in response to an action and resuming delivery of the content upon a request.

A method for content delivery to a user device, that helps to reduce bandwidth requirements and increases security of the content. The method includes receiving a download request from the user device, the download request including request data corresponding to characteristics of the user device, analyzing the request data to select a bootstrap module; transmitting the bootstrap module to the user device for download; analyzing an authentication characteristic to determine that the user device is authenticated for content viewing; transmitting a content catalogue to the user device; and upon receiving a user selection of a content item from the content catalogue, transmitting the user selected content item to the user device.

There is described a challenge-response method for a computing device. The method comprises steps of: (a) receiving challenge data at a secured module of the computing device, the challenge data comprising image content encrypted using an encryption key, and the image content including a nonce; (b) the secured module recovering the image content through decryption using one or more keys associated with the encryption key; (c) the secured module of the computing device outputting the recovered image content; (d) capturing the image content as output by the secured module; (e) processing the captured image content so as to obtain the nonce; and (f) providing the nonce as a response. There is also described a computing device arranged to carry out the challenge-response method, a computer program for causing a processor to carry out the challenge-response method, and a computer readable medium storing such a computer program.

Systems and methods for binding content to pairing of a playback device and removable memory storage device are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for requesting authorization to play content using a playback device and a removable memory storage device includes retrieving a coupon identifier from a removable memory storage device while it is attached to the playback device, generating a coupon code using the coupon identifier, sending a request for storefront token that includes a device match data token and an application identifier, receiving a storefront token associated with a storefront identifier where the storefront identifier identifies a storefront application, sending a request for ticket token that includes the coupon code, the storefront identifier, and a content identifier that identifies the content, sending a request for license file that includes the ticket token, and receiving a license file that grants playback rights to the piece of content.

Disclosed is a method for providing access to a digital content for a user device. The method includes receiving information including a public network address of the local area network and an identifier of a subscription, and storing the information in a register; receiving a validation request from a digital content management system; inquiring if the public network address in the validation request exists in the register; and in response to a positive detection of the inquiry further inquiring from a subscription management register if the subscription in question is valid, and in response to a positive detection generating a signal to the digital content management system indicating that the user device is entitled to access the digital content. To protect digital content, a content player is installed on a content user device. A unique identifier for the content player installed on the content user device is provided to a central content storage entity. A license to play proprietary digital content stored on the central content storage is purchased from a storefront on the central content storage entity. The proprietary digital content includes an original work of authorship protectable by copyright. Content-player-specific digital content from the central content storage is downloaded to the content user device. The content-player-specific digital content includes encoded content of the proprietary digital content embedded with the unique identifier. The content player confirms that the unique identifier embedded with the encoded content matches the unique identifier provided for the content player before allowing play of the proprietary digital content on the content player.

For simplifying and/or improving the updating of firmware of a control device, in particular of a safety controller, the invention provides a method and a system for updating firmware, in which a device-specific authorization check for performing a firmware update is performed by the manufacturer, and in case of a successful authorization check a device-specific activation code for performing the firmware update is provided, and for this purpose an enabling device is provided on the manufacturer's side and an updating device connectable to a control device on the user's side. The improvement is that the safe and secure firmware update proceeds under the control and long-term archiving of the manufacturer. The invention furthermore relates to a digital storage medium having instructions stored thereon for use when performing the method according to the invention.

Systems and methods for binding of cryptographic content using unique device characteristics with server heuristics in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes a processor and memory includes collecting a combination of device characteristics that uniquely identify the device using information stored on the device and accessible to the device using the device processor, generating device match data based upon the collected combination of device characteristics using the device processor, generating a device protection key using the device match data, encrypting the cryptographic data using the device protection key, and storing the encrypted cryptographic data in device memory using the device processor.

In some embodiments, a method includes sending an authentication request to a client device to obtain a utilization code in response to a request from the client device to access data. The utilization code is uniquely associated with the client device. The method includes obtaining an authentication response including the utilization code from the client device and authenticating the client device if the utilization code matches a utilization identifier stored in a database. The method includes generating an encryption key using a seed based at least in part on the utilization code and encrypting the data with the encryption key to generate encrypted data and sending, when the utilization code matches the utilization identifier stored in the database, the encrypted data to the client device without requiring a user of the client device to login.

A method, apparatus, and system related to relevancy improvement through targeting of information based on data gathered from a networked device associated with a security sandbox of a client device are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system may comprise a networked device, a relevancy-matching server, and a client device. The networked device may be configured to generate a preliminary data and/or a primary data associated with a user and automatically announce a sandbox-reachable service of the networked device to a discovery module. The relevancy-matching server may be configured to match a targeted data with the primary data based on a relevancy factor associated with the user. The client device may be configured to automatically process an identification data of the networked device and/or the sandbox-reachable service of the networked device from the discovery module and to automatically associate with the networked device based on the identification data.
