Mobile point-of-sale crowdfunding

A system and method for calculating crowdfunding terms based on a financial history of a merchant is described. The crowdfunding terms include an approved funding amount and repayment terms including a portion of transactions processed for the merchant by the payment processing system to withhold for repayment of the approved funding amount plus earnings to investors. The a payment processing system may withhold the portion of the transactions processed for the merchant by the payment processing system for repayment of the approved funding amount plus earnings to the investors, apportion the portion of the transactions processed for the merchant by the payment processing system amongst the investors, and transmit, by the payment processor system, the apportioned amount to each investor.

Validating identification of a user for purchase of age-restricted items

An identification validation system and method may include detecting that a first age restricted item has been selected for purchase at a first point of sale by a user, determining that an age validation is not enabled, requiring that the user submit an identification instrument to verify an age of the user, after the purchase is complete, prompting the user to enable the age validation feature of the mobile wallet application of the user mobile device, directing a software application loaded on the user mobile device to access at least one biometric data input functionality of the user mobile device to capture the at least one biometric of the user, and comparing biometric features of the user captured by at least one camera.

Multi-use near field communication front end on a point of sale system

Methods and systems related to near field communication (NFC) front ends for point of sale terminals are disclosed. One point of sale system includes an applications microprocessor programmed to: (i) instantiate an operating system for the point of sale system and (ii) generate a set of data packets. The system also includes a discrete microcontroller communicatively coupled with the applications microprocessor and programmed to: (i) selectively operate in an unsecure mode and a secure mode; and (ii) filter, when operating in the unsecure mode, the set of data packets received from the applications microprocessor using a filter and a whitelist for the filter. The system also includes a near field communication front end communicatively coupled to the discrete microcontroller and an antenna, for transmitting a near field communication signal based on information from the set of data packets via the antenna.

Collection of transaction receipts using an online content management service

An online content management service can collect and store receipts for a user from a variety of sources, including images captured by the user, messages received for the user at a messaging service or message management service, and/or receipts directly uploaded to the online content management service by a merchant. In the case of receipts provided as messages, a user can interact with a message management service to identify messages as receipts, and the message management service can upload such messages to the online content management service.

A system may include a point-of-sale (POS) terminal and a database configured to store respective package quantity data for different package configurations for each product from among products, and to store respective product quantity promotion threshold data for each product. The system may also include a controller coupled to the database and the POS terminal and configured to calculate, based upon the stored package quantity data, a given product quantity for a given purchase of a plurality of different package configurations of the given product at the POS terminal. The controller may be configured to compare the given product quantity to a respective product quantity promotion threshold from among the stored product promotion threshold data, and when the given product quantity is above the respective product quantity promotion threshold, then award a digital promotion for redemption.

Transaction payment processing by multiple data centers

A payment service is configured to support purchase transactions generated by merchant point-of-sale (POS) devices, wherein each purchase transaction may comprise multiple transaction requests such as authorization requests and capture requests. Each transaction request may be sent to a different one of multiple data centers of the payment service. Upon successfully receiving an acknowledgement from one of the data centers for a transaction request, the POS device designates that data center as the primary data center. Subsequently, all transaction requests for that transaction identify the primary data center, even when the transaction requests are sent to other data centers. At the payment service, the data centers synchronize requests such that the primary data center is informed of all authorizations and is made responsible for performing the capture of the transaction. This allows the primary data center to detect duplicate authorizations and to prevent duplicate captures.
