Devices and methods employing dual target auto exposure

The method includes automatically adjusting a first control parameter in a device for capturing a first plurality of images, automatically adjusting a second control parameter in the device for capturing a second plurality of images such that automatic adjustment of the first control parameter is interspersed with, separate from, and obtained generally concurrently with the automatic adjustment of the second control parameter. The adjustment of the first control parameter being determined differently compared to adjustment of the second control parameter. The method may include attempting to decode a decodable indicia utilizing one or more images of the first and second plurality of images.

A barcode reader may perform image processing functions to generate distinct image data records from the frame of image data of a barcode, select an image data record from the distinct image data records and decode the selected image data record. Each image data record may be generated by applying a distinct image processing function to the frame of image data. The barcode reader may capture multiple frames of image data in sequence based on image capture parameters. At least one of the multiple frames of image data may be captured with a distinct parameter value. The image capture parameters may include an exposure setting, a gain setting, a resolution setting, and/or an illumination setting.

Methods of detecting scan avoidance events during decode sessions are disclosed herein. An example method includes during a timeout period at one or more processors of the symbology scanner, identifying and decoding a transaction affecting indicia on an object in one or more images to obtain a transaction affecting payload; during the timeout period at the one or more processors, identifying one or more visual features in the one or more images; and in response to identifying a non-transaction affecting indicia associated with the one or more visual features, and failing to identify or decode the transaction affecting indicia, determining a potential scan avoidance attempt and generating a scan avoidance alarm signal.

Barcode Reader with Off-Platter Detection
20220269875 · 2022-08-25 ·

A barcode reader has a housing, weigh platter, and off-platter detection assembly including first and second imaging assemblies in communication with a controller. The first imaging assembly has a first imager configured to capture an image of a first lateral edge of the weigh platter. The second imaging assembly has a second imager configured to capture an image of a second lateral edge of the weigh platter. The controller is configured to: identify and locate the first and second lateral edges; receive first and second images from the imagers; allow the weight of an object to be recorded if determined that a footprint of the object does not extend over the first or second lateral edges; and prevent the weight of the object from being recorded and/or providing an alert to a user if determined that the footprint of the object does extend over the first or second lateral edges.

BARCODE DECODING METHOD

A barcode decoding method includes steps of analyzing a relative relationship between at least two characteristic points of a gray level distribution of a target scanning line of a target barcode to obtain at least one reference characteristic parameter; when determining a current distance between a barcode reader and the target barcode being a relatively long distance, dividing the gray level distribution into at least one bar area and at least one space area; setting a gray level region and locating at least one peak point and/or at least one valley point located within the gray level region from the gray level distribution; when the peak point is located within the bar area, interpolating a space corresponding to the peak point into the bar area; and when the valley point is located within the space area, interpolating a bar corresponding to the valley point into the space area.

Authentication method and system

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for the production and labeling of objects in a manner suitable for the prevention and detection of counterfeiting. Thus, the system incorporates a variety of features that make unauthorized reproduction difficult. In addition, the present invention provides a system and method for providing a dynamically reconfigurable watermark, and the use of the watermark to encode a stochastically variable property of the carrier medium for self-authentication purposes.

Tag with tunable retro-reflectors

A data readout device is provided and includes a reflective base, reflective sidewalls disposed about the reflective base and an actuation system. The actuation system is configured to modify relative positioning of one of the reflective base and the reflective sidewalls to either reflect incoming radiation back toward an origin thereof or to reflect the incoming radiation away from the origin thereof.

Modular Off-Platter Detection Assembly for Use with Barcode Readers

A modular off-platter detection assembly for use with a barcode reader includes a housing, a first light source, a first light sensor, and a controller operatively coupled to the first light source and the first light sensor. The housing is configured to be removably mounted to the barcode reader, a frame supporting the barcode reader, or the workstation. The first light source is positioned within the housing and emits a first light along a first lateral edge of a weigh platter. The first light sensor is positioned within the housing, has a first field-of-view along the first lateral edge, and is configured to detect at least a portion of the first light reflected towards the housing. The controller is configured to provide a first alert in response to receipt of a first value from the first light sensor indicating there is an object extending across the first lateral edge.

Barcode reader with off-platter detection

A barcode reader has a weigh platter and an off-platter detection assembly. The weigh platter is configured to measure a weight of an object and has a surface extending in a first transverse plane, a proximal edge, a first lateral edge extending non-parallel to the proximal edge, and a distal edge. The off-platter detection assembly includes a light emission assembly and a light detection assembly. The light emission assembly is configured to emit a collimated light beam along the first lateral edge, above the surface. The light diffusing barrier is positioned in a path of the collimated light beam and is configured to diffuse the light beam such that the light diffusing barrier appears to be illuminated when contacted by the light beam and appears not to be illuminated when not contacted by the light beam.
