A printer has a printing mechanism for printing on roll paper; RAM storing font data for multiple languages having at least some character codes in common, and the starting address of the font data for each of the multiple languages; a communicator that receives a command specifying starting addresses and character codes; and a controller that reads font data corresponding to the character codes received by the communicator from RAM based on the starting address specified by the command, and controlling the printing mechanism to print based on the read font data.

A print output control device operably connected to a printer, is configured to periodically check a first buffer sequentially storing print data received from the printer; accumulate, when the print data is stored in the first buffer, the stored print data in a second buffer; store, when status information on the printer is included in the print data, the status information in a status storage unit; store, when a first function is executed, in a third buffer, the print data accumulated in the second buffer to send back the stored print data as an acquisition value for the first function; and store, when a second function is executed, in a third buffer, the print data accumulated in the second buffer from when the second function is executed to send back the stored print data as an acquisition value for the second function.

Functionality for issuing instructions related to the status of a printing device can be added to a control device capable of connecting to a printing device while suppressing modification of programs installed on the control device. A network system 1 includes a printer 9 that prints on recording media, and a control device 8 capable of communicating with the printer 9. The control device 8 has a control unit that generates and outputs by a printing program a command instructing the printer 9 to print; and a management unit that adds a maintenance command issuing an instruction related to the status of the printer 9 to the command output by the control unit, and sends the command with the added maintenance command to the printer 9, by a maintenance program that is different from the printing program.

Examples relate to providing synchronized look-up table loading. In some examples, a print job is processed using an initial look-up table in processor memory. In response to the processing of the print job reaching a buffer trigger row of a portion of the print job, look-up metadata is accessed to locate a next look-up table. At this stage, the next look-up table is dynamically loaded into the processor memory as the processor continues to process the print job, where the processing of the print job begins using the next look-up table after a target row of the portion of the print job is reached.
