PROSTHETIC ATTACHMENT SYSTEM

A prosthetic attachment system includes an insert arranged for connection to a prosthetic liner, and an attachment unit arranged for connection to a distal end of a prosthetic socket. The attachment unit comprises a body defining an axis and a central opening for selectively receiving the insert. The body carries a plurality of locking elements that are distributed circumferentially about the axis and radially repositionable relative to the axis. A release mechanism is slidably positioned on an outer surface of the body to move the prosthetic attachment system between a locked configuration in which the locking elements are radially repositioned to lock the insert in the central opening of the body and an unlocked configuration in which the insert is released from the central opening.

An interface for use in conjunction with a prosthetic device is formed of a pliable material which is configured to support the necessary connection to a residual limb when used. The interface further has an internal surface structure that includes several stepped indentations which provide a more efficient and effective product. The stepped indentations have a dimension which decreases as the distance from the interior surface increases. In some embodiments, the indentations are shaped as an octagon, with each step also being octagonal. Other shapes are also contemplated. Also, the steps of the indentations could be uniform or irregular.

Electrically driven artificial arm and method of use

Disclosed is a prosthesis for a person with an amputation below the elbow to provide a replacement for at least a lower arm of the person. The prosthesis includes a receiving sleeve adapted to be attached to a stump of the person such that the stump can move the receiving sleeve. An electromechanical hand is attached to the receiving sleeve, the electromechanical hand having a rotary mechanism, a control unit, at least one finger and at least one motor. The rotary mechanism includes a potentiometer having a shaft in communication with the receiving sleeve such that a displacement of the receiving sleeve causes a corresponding rotation of the shaft of the potentiometer. The control unit is configured to measure the corresponding rotation of the shaft of the potentiometer and send a signal to the at least one motor to actuate the at least one finger.

System and method for muscle movements detection

Disclosed herein a system and a method to detect an amputee's hand muscles movements for controlling an artificial limb prosthesis. The system may comprise a plurality of passive tag positions and wearable band with a plurality of on-board position readers. The plurality of on-board position readers may be configured to capture data associated with a first plurality of passive tags positions at a first moment, and capture data associated with a second plurality of passive tags positions at a second moment. The system may further include one or more processors configured to detect at least one of the muscle contraction, the muscle relaxation, and the muscle inactivity based on the data captured at the first moment and at the second moment, and thereby control the artificial hand prosthesis movements responsive to detection at least one of the muscle contraction, the muscle relaxation, and the muscle inactivity.

Prosthetic socket sealing system

A prosthetic socket system includes a distal seal positionable between an interior surface of a prosthetic socket defining a pin bore and a distal end of a prosthetic liner carrying an attachment pin arranged to extend through the pin bore. The distal seal includes a base proximate to the attachment pin and defining an opening configured to receive and surround the attachment pin, a sealing portion extending distally from an outer radial portion of the base, and a variable clearance defined between the sealing portion and the base. The sealing portion is adapted to form a seal around the attachment pin and prevent fluid flow through the pin bore by deflecting relative to the base when the sealing portion engages the interior surface of the prosthetic socket.

Breathable Residual-Limb Socket System

A liner defines a pouch, an opening, a cup, and a first ring positioned on the pouch distal to the opening. The pouch is air-permeable and defines an internal volume for receiving a residual limb. The opening defined by the pouch provides access to the internal volume. The cup is air-impermeable and is positioned on the pouch distal to the opening. The liner is combined with an adapter for connecting a residual limb to a prosthetic limb. The adapter has a socket for receiving the cup, at least one hole positioned within the socket for drainage therefrom and sleeve extending from the socket and surrounding a central space. The adapter also has at least one vent positioned in the sleeve and overlies the air permeable material.

A method for manufacturing a customized sleeve for a prosthesis, comprises the following steps: (a) providing a mold of an end of a limb of an individual who is intended to receive said prosthesis; (b) providing a preform made of an elastomer material, said preform comprising an open proximal end and a closed distal end; (c) positioning said preform on the mold; (d) positioning on said preform at least one element from: a polymer reinforcement, a layer of an elongation-preventing fabric, a distal cup and an air discharge sheath; (e) positioning a vacuum cover around the preform; (f) creating a vacuum and injecting a polymer cross-linkable at room temperature into said vacuum cover so as to form a coating having a uniform thickness over the preform and each element which is positioned on said preform.

A system and method for producing a customized prosthetic socket based on a digital representation of a residual limb that is used to form a digital model of a prosthetic socket. The digital model is customized to alter its internal structure to produce differing areas of flexibility and support while maintaining the overall geometry of the model and without having to use different materials. The digital model is converted for use with a three-dimensional printing or manufacturing device and then used to print the customized socket.

Disarticulated Compression Socket

The invention provides for an improved disarticulated compression socket configured to secure a residual limb. The disarticulated compression socket may include a rigid socket frame, and preferably a 3-D printed socket having one or more surface channels that may secure a compression cord optionally positioned within a cord cylinder. Such compression cord may be responsive to a compression actuator and one or more disarticulated compression inserts such that activation of the compression actuator causes the retraction of the compression cord initiating the coordinated inward compression of each of said disarticulated compression inserts securing the residual limb within said socket frame.
