Client device authentication using contactless legacy magnetic stripe data
11638148 · 2023-04-25 · ·

A technique for generating a diversified encryption key for a contactless legacy magnetic stripe card is disclosed. The diversified key can be generated using a master key, a key diversification value and an encryption algorithm. In one example embodiment, the key diversification value can be provided by the user as a fingerprint, numeric code or photo. The user can provide the key diversification value to the card or a cellphone. The card can generate the diversified key using the user provided key diversification value. The card or the cellphone can transmit the user provided diversification value to the server and the server can regenerate the diversified key using the user provided diversification value.

NFC ENABLED CARD FOR CONSUMER ACCESSIBILITY
20220327517 · 2022-10-13 ·

A contactless card useful for adjusting the operation, configuration, and/or performance of a secondary device is described. The contactless card is equipped with a communication interface which allows the contactless card to transmit information to the secondary device using NFC signals. The contactless card stores accommodation information related to a physical accommodation desired by the user and transmits that information in the form of an accommodation message to the secondary device after being placed in a NFC field generated by the secondary device. In some embodiments, the contactless card requests an authentication certificate in order to determine a degree of trust prior to sending an accommodation message. In some embodiments, the contactless card may adjust what accommodation information is included in the accommodation message based on the authentication certificate received from the secondary device.

Network cache of device input for redundancy during device inoperability
11665235 · 2023-05-30 · ·

There are provided systems and methods for a network cache of device input for redundancy during device inoperability. A device may detect that the device is in danger of failure, for example, if a battery is low on the device, the device is damaged, or the device may lose network connectivity. On detection of such a condition, the device may request that a server that performs electronic transaction processing establish or trigger a mode that allows for caching of transaction data as input for the transaction data is entered to a device, which may be done by sending signaling to the server indicating the condition that affects the device's operability. The server may then cache input for the transaction data. If the device fails prior to approving and completing electronic transaction processing, the server may use the cached data to generate a digital ledger for another entity.

Information processing apparatus and information processing method

An information processing apparatus includes a first reader electrically reading a first information in a non-contact manner; a second reader electrically or magnetically reading a second information; a touch panel electrically detecting the contact or proximity of an object; and a CPU electrically connected to the first reader, the second reader, and the touch panel. The CPU exclusively controls an ON/OFF of the first reading function of the first reader and an ON/OFF of the input detection function of the touch panel, based on a detection that the communication medium is placed in a predetermined position with respect to the first reader or a detection that the card is placed in a predetermined position with respect to the second reader.

Security devices, systems, and methods for dynamic transaction cards

A dynamic transaction card including: one or more light emitting elements; a transceiver; and an embedded microprocessor configured to: receive, from a transaction terminal, a location information corresponding to a current location of the transaction terminal; wirelessly transmit, via the transceiver and to a mobile device, the location information; receive an indication that a location-specific security concern exists; and in response to receiving the indication, control the one or more light emitting elements to display a visual indication corresponding to the location-specific security concern.

HOLDING DEVICE FOR AN IDENTIFICATION ELEMENT, IDENTIFICATION UNIT HAVING A HOLDING DEVICE AND AN IDENTIFICATION ELEMENT, AND IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM HAVING AN IDENTIFICATION UNIT
20230105400 · 2023-04-06 ·

A holding device for an identification element wherein the identification element is inserted in an identification system. The holding device includes a holding unit by which the identification element is held, and a data transceiver by which data is transferred between the holding device and the identification system. The data is transferred between the identification element and the holding device by the data transceiver even when the identification element is arranged outside of the holding unit. Also disclosed is an identification unit including a holding device and an identification element and to an identification system having an identification unit.

Method for transmitting data to a magnetic reading head, method for processing received data, corresponding payment terminal and program
11620631 · 2023-04-04 · ·

A method for the transmission of data to a magnetic read head of a payment terminal. The method is implemented by an electronic device capable of generating a magnetic field representative of an encoding of the data to be transmitted, and the transmission of the data includes a plurality of emissions of a same sequence of standardized data. The standardized data is data representative of a payment means and is formatted according to the ISO/IEC 7813 standard. The method further includes transmitting secondary data that are emitted between two successive emissions of the sequence of standardized data.

Methods and devices for the secure transmission of data between a terminal, and a card reader, and corresponding computer program product
11621831 · 2023-04-04 · ·

A method of secure reception, in a card reader, of a piece of data entered into a terminal connected to the card reader. The method includes the following acts by the card reader: obtaining an encipherment reader key from the card reader; encrypting the encipherment reader key by using an authentic encipherment key shared between the card reader and an authentication server, delivering an encrypted reader key; sending the encrypted reader key to the authentication server for transmission of the reader key from the authentication server to the terminal; receiving an encrypted key sent by the authentication server, resulting from an encryption of a terminal key, obtained by the authentication server, by using the authentic key; and receiving encrypted data sent by the terminal, resulting from an encryption, by using at least the reader key and of the terminal key, of the at least one piece of data.

Embedded card reader security

Techniques described herein are directed to embedded card reader security. In an example, personal account number data read from a payment instrument may be temporally and/or spatially separated from personal identification number data utilized to complete a payment for products. Temporal separation may include removing the personal account number data from a merchant device prior to request personal identification number data. Spatial separation may include utilization of trusted execution environments, separated embedded card reader applications, intermediary applications, and/or trust routines, for example to enable different components of a merchant device, and/or components of other devices and systems to handle personal account number data and personal identification number data.
