A motor vehicle includes a first system detecting that the motor vehicle has violated a traffic law. A second system ascertains an identity of a person driving the motor vehicle during the violation of the traffic law. A wireless transmitter is communicatively coupled to the first system and to the second system. The wireless transmitter transmits a wireless signal indicative of the violation of the traffic law and the identity of the person driving the motor vehicle during the violation of the traffic law.

An electronic apparatus and method for traffic speed enforcement based on license plate detection is provided. The electronic apparatus controls an image-capture device on a first vehicle to capture a sequence of images of a second vehicle and detects a license plate of the second vehicle in the captured sequence of images. The electronic apparatus extracts a set of license plate images from a set of images in the sequence of images and determines a first change in a size of a first license plate image with respect to that of a second license plate image. The electronic apparatus further determines a speed of the first vehicle and a traffic speed violation by the second vehicle based on the determined first change and the determined speed of the first vehicle. The electronic apparatus further controls a media device to output a notification indicative of the determined traffic speed violation.

An electronic apparatus and method for traffic speed enforcement based on license plate detection is provided. The electronic apparatus controls an image-capture device on a first vehicle to capture a sequence of images of a second vehicle and detects a license plate of the second vehicle in the captured sequence of images. The electronic apparatus extracts a set of license plate images from a set of images in the sequence of images and determines a first change in a size of a first license plate image with respect to that of a second license plate image. The electronic apparatus further determines a speed of the first vehicle and a traffic speed violation by the second vehicle based on the determined first change and the determined speed of the first vehicle. The electronic apparatus further controls a media device to output a notification indicative of the determined traffic speed violation.

HANDHELD LASER-BASED VEHICLE SPEED MEASUREMENT DEVICE INCORPORATING AN AUTOMATIC NUMBER PLATE RECOGNITION (ANPR) FUNCTION
Disclosed herein is a handheld speed gun incorporating automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) functionality. As the image size of a vehicle license plate varies depending on its distance from the speed gun, in the present invention the distance to the target vehicle is known through the functionality of the laser sensor so the size of the pixels for the number plate can be estimated. Since the image of the number plate may be tilted in a handheld device, the present invention compensates for this by use of the instrument's tilt sensor or through other compensation by use of the image itself.

Method of detecting speed using difference of distance between object and monitoring camera
Disclosed herein is a method of detecting a vehicle speed. The method includes receiving a first vehicle image photographed by a camera at a first time; identifying an area occupied by the license plate from the first vehicle image and extracting a first number; receiving a second vehicle image photographed by the camera at a second time; identifying an area occupied by the license plate from the second vehicle image and extracting a second number; comparing the first number with the second number to determine whether the first number is equal to the second number; deciding an actual size of the number of plate; calculating a distance between the vehicle and the camera at first and second times; and calculating a vehicle speed.
