SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR SLEEP INDUCEMENT THROUGH CORE BODY TEMPERATURE COOLING
20210346642 · 2021-11-11 ·

The present invention provides systems and methods inducing sleep through core body temperature cooling. The system comprises a primary heat sink in thermal contact with the wearer's palms and/or soles of feet causing cooling of the Arteriovenous Anastomoses (AVA's). The resulting controlled lowering of the core body temperature induces sleep.

MEDICAL DEVICES FOR GENERATING HEAT AND METHODS OF TREATMENT USING SAME

A device comprising a heat-generating component that comprises an alkali metal is provided. The alkali metal in the presence of water at a point of contact of the device undergoes an exothermic reaction to generate heat in situ. The amount of heat generated is proportional to and/or limited by the amount (or moles) of water at the point of contact, and the heat generated is sufficient to achieve an increase in temperature at the point of contact to achieve a therapeutic or beneficial result. In one embodiment, the device is used for reducing sweat production in a subject suffering from excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. In other embodiments, the device is used to substantially sterilize a surface or render a surface substantially aseptic.

Compositions, treatment systems and methods for improved cooling of lipid-rich tissue

Compositions and formulations for use with devices and systems that enable tissue cooling, such as cryotherapy applications, for alteration and reduction of adipose tissue are described. Aspects of the technology are further directed to methods, compositions and devices that provide protection of non-targeted cells (e.g., non-lipid-rich cells) from freeze damage during dermatological and related aesthetic procedures that require sustained exposure to cold temperatures. Further aspects of the technology include systems for enhancing sustained and/or replenishing release of cryoprotectant to a treatment site prior to and during cooling applications.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REGULATING CORE BODY TEMPERATURE

A method for maintaining and/or increasing body temperature of a patient may involve delivering heat to a first location on a limb of the patient, delivering heat to a second location on the limb, apart from the first location, and applying intermittent compression to a third location on the limb, located between the first location and the second location. A device for maintaining and/or increasing body temperature of a patient may include a sleeve for positioning over at least part of one of the patient's limbs, first and second heat delivery members coupled with the sleeve, and an intermittent compression member coupled with the sleeve between the first and second heat delivery members.

Methods for transcutaneous heat transfer are provided. Aspects of the methods include stably associating a glabrous skin surface of a mammal with a thermoregulatory device configured to be associated with only a portion of a limb of the mammal and transferring heat through the glabrous skin surface without application of negative pressure. Also provided are devices, systems and kits that find use practicing the methods. The methods and compositions described herein find use in a variety of different applications, including maintaining normothermia, e.g., in thermoregulatory compromised individuals.

Modifying humidity to glabrous tissue for the treatment of migraine and other conditions

Systems and methods for improving or preventing a condition, such as the treatment of pain syndromes and migraine headaches are disclosed. A method for treating pain can include one or more of the steps including identifying a region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue; positioning the region of the patient comprising glabrous tissue into an enclosed chamber; adjusting the relative humidity of the enclosed chamber sufficient to create a physiologic effect. The method need not involve altering the temperature within the enclosed chamber.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR THERMOREGULATION OF CORE BODY TEMPERATURE THROUGH APPLICATION OF NEAR INFRARED RADIATION AND LOCALIZED THERMAL TRANSFER ON SKIN SURFACES
20210275349 · 2021-09-09 ·

The invention presents methods and devices for controlling and modifying the core body temperature of a human or other mammal. The apparatus contains an element to be placed in contact with an individual's skin, such as the palm of a hand or sole of a foot; the element emits radiation, preferably within the red to infrared range of 550 nm to 950 nm, inducing vasodilation and increased blood flow in the region beneath the contacting area. A heat exchange element is concurrently in contact with the skin, capable of transferring heat into or removing heat from the circulatory vasculature, through the skin surface. The circulatory system carries the increase or decrease in thermal energy to the body's core organs. As such the method and devices are capable of increasing or decreasing the core body temperature, or maintaining current core body temperature in the presence of external thermal elements.
