MOUTH PIECE FOR COOLING OF ORAL TISSUE OF A PATIENT DURING CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENT
20180140407 · 2018-05-24 ·

The invention is directed to a mouth piece for cooling of oral tissue of a patient during chemotherapy treatment. The mouth piece includes a cooling medium contained within the top element and the bottom element and able to retain a cooling environment within the mouth sufficient to reduce capillary blood flow to the patient's mouth. In one embodiment, an external chamber extends from the front of the mouth piece to house a cooling medium. A bladder is positioned inside the external chamber for storing a solution having a freezing temperature above the freezing point temperature of the cooling medium to assist in cooling the cooling medium.

The invention relates to a device for use in the thermal therapy treatment of a selected region of the body of a human or of an animal, in particular for use in the treatment of tissue damage after surgical interventions, of injuries, of inflammations and of chronic diseases of the rheumatic type, and in particular for assisting chemotherapeutic treatments, comprising a temperature control device which is provided in order to control a temperature of a temperature control fluid, and a heat transfer device which is arranged to transfer heat to the selected region of the body, wherein the temperature control device is connected, in a fluid conducting manner, to the heat transfer device, and is further arranged to temper the heat transfer device with a heat transferring temperature control fluid flowing through the heat transfer device, and with a control device which is connected to the temperature control device and to the heat transfer device, wherein the control device is arranged to control the temperature control device, in order to cause the heat transfer device to be at least partially at an approximately uniform temperature in the region of a contact surface between the heat transfer device and the selected region of the body to be temperature controlled. The invention further relates to a method of operating the device.

METHOD FOR PREVENTING AND/OR TREATING PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH ORAL ULCERATIONS

A method for preventing and/or treating pain and/or inflammation of a cancer patient suffering from an oral tissue ulceration in the patient's oral cavity aggravated by anti-cancer infusion therapy such as chemotherapy, including placing an apparatus within the patient's oral cavity prior to administration of an infusion of an anti-cancer agent to the patient, the apparatus configured and dimensioned to be retained within the oral cavity, the apparatus including a coolant for reducing temperature below an ambient tempetarure of the patient's oral cavity for a first predetermined period of time to permit fluid within the apparatus to cool the oral cavity and to prevent and/or to alleviate pain and/or inflammation caused by the ulceration, maintaining placement of the apparatus during infusion of the anti-cancer agent for a second predetermined period of time, and continuing use of the apparatus after completion of the infusion for a third pre-determined period of time.

APPARATUS FOR THERMAL THERAPY TREATMENT OF A SELECTED REGION OF THE BODY OF A HUMAN OR OF AN ANIMAL AND METHOD OF OPERATING SAID APPARATUS
20250360023 · 2025-11-27 ·

The invention relates to a device and method for thermal therapy of a selected region of a human or animal body, particularly for treating tissue damage after surgery, injuries, inflammation, chronic rheumatic conditions, and for supporting chemotherapy. The system includes a temperature control device that circulates a temperature-controlled fluid through a heat transfer unit configured for uniform skin contact, and a pressure device to optimize thermal transfer. During chemotherapy, the device maintains the selected region, such as hands or feet, at a target temperature to prevent or reduce chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy (CIPN). Sensors monitor temperature and pressure, enabling feedback control for consistent therapy. Methods include fitting the device to the patient, adjusting pressure, and maintaining even skin cooling throughout chemotherapy, thereby improving patient comfort, reducing adverse side effects, and supporting adherence to treatment. The invention provides improved outcomes in thermal therapy applications.

SCALP COOLING DEVICE
20260033984 · 2026-02-05 ·

The present invention provides a scalp cooling device, including a covering part for wrapping a patient's scalp and a cooling part disposed within the covering part. This device can wrap around the patient's scalp and provide a cooling effect, causing the blood vessels in the scalp skin to constrict, reducing the blood flow to the scalp hair follicles, thereby reducing the intake of chemotherapeutic drugs by the hair follicles. Additionally, it lowers biochemical activity, thereby reducing the sensitivity of hair follicles to chemotherapy damage, and reduces the metabolic rate of the hair follicles, thus protecting the patient's hair follicles and preventing or mitigating hair loss caused by chemotherapy. Notably, the cooling part includes a gel-like coolant, which contains a moisture moderator and edible propylene glycol that maintains moisture and provides emulsifying and stabilizing effects, thus offering a long-lasting and stable cooling effect, enhancing the device's effectiveness in preventing hair loss.
