Ultrasonic Surgical Aspiration Needle Assembly with Molded Hub
20170312128 · 2017-11-02 ·

A surgical needle assembly for attachment to an ultrasonic handpiece includes an elongated metal cannula having a distal end and a proximal end. A hub is insert molded onto the cannula generally towards the cannula proximal end and formed from a material having an ultimate strength at least twice a peak cyclical stress force at a joint between the elongated metal cannula and the hub when the surgical needle assembly is in use with the ultrasonic handpiece. The hub material has a stiffness sufficient to limit a motion of the elongated metal cannula to less than 1.5 times an expected peak to peak stroke length when the surgical needle assembly is in use with the ultrasonic handpiece. The hub includes structure for mating attachment to the ultrasonic handpiece.

A phacoemulsification cutting tip, including a rigid tubular portion and a flexible and expandable tip portion located distal to the rigid tubular portion. The flexible and expandable tip portion presents an axial length and an unexpanded radius and is formed such that the axial length shortens while the unexpanded radius increases when differential pressure due to an occlusion of an opening of the flexible tip portion exists.

Treatment device, treatment device unit and treatment system

A treatment device includes a probe having a treatment portion to treat a biological tissue by using the ultrasonic vibration generated in an ultrasonic transducer; an action portion being able to be close to and away from the treatment portion and including a pressing portion that presses the biological tissue to the treatment portion; and a vibration damping portion disposed in a part of the pressing portion in a state of facing the treatment portion, moving following the treatment portion to which the ultrasonic vibration is transmitted when abutting on the treatment portion in a state where the ultrasonic vibration is transmitted to the treatment portion, and prevented from being grinded by the treatment portion to which the ultrasonic vibration is transmitted.

PRESENTING VISUAL AND THERMAL IMAGES IN A HEADSET DURING PHACOEMULSIFICATION
20220057635 · 2022-02-24 ·

A surgical imaging system, including a first imaging device configured to generate a real-time visual image of a first field of view of a patient, and a second imaging device configured to generate a real-time thermal image of the first field of view. The system also includes a retaining structure, configured to be positioned in proximity to an eye of an operator, and a semitransparent screen configured to be mounted on the structure. The system additionally includes a processor configured to receive the images, and upon receiving an indication from the operator, to present, on the screen, the real-time visual image, or the real-time thermal image or the real-time thermal image overlaid on the real-time visual image, focused to a point in proximity to a near point of the eye while the operator can view, through the screen, a second field of view different from the first field of view.

Control of pulse duty cycle based upon footswitch displacement

Phacoemulsification apparatus includes a phacoemulsification handpiece having a needle and an electrical circuitry for ultrasonic vibrating the needle. A power source provides pulsed electrical power to the handpiece electrical circuitry and an input is provided for enabling a surgeon to select an amplitude of dislighted pulses and a pulse width. A control system and pulse duty cycle is provided for controlling the off duty cycle to insure heat dissipation before a subsequent pulse is activated, including a foot pedal switch.

Ultrasonic surgical instruments with control mechanisms

Various embodiments are directed to surgical instruments for use in handheld applications or with robotic surgical systems. The surgical instruments may comprise an end effector to treat tissue and a shaft extending proximally from the end effector along a longitudinal axis. Some embodiments may be usable with an instrument mounting portion of a robotic surgical instrument. For example, the shaft may extend proximally to the instrument mounting portion.

Combined Laser and Phacoemulsification System for Eye Surgery
20220047421 · 2022-02-17 · ·

Cataract surgery is in recent years more and more augmented and supported by the application of laser cuts in the eye tissue. Such laser systems are separate units from the phacoemulsification system units that are usually used for cataract extraction. The laser systems require the patient to be positioned under the laser unit and then being moved under the surgical microscope next to the phacoemulsification unit. The here described invention relates to systems combining several aspects of the laser system and the phacoemulsification system. In particular, this invention relates to combining at least some parts of the control system and the housing for both systems and thereby minimizing and optimizing setup time, operating room footprint, patient flow and cost. Furthermore the here disclosed invention relates to integrating the laser system under the surgical microscope and thereby significantly reducing the surgery setup and complexity.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR POST-OCCLUSION SURGE MITIGATION

According to certain embodiments, a surgical cassette for an ophthalmic surgical system comprises an irrigation conduit that is in fluid communication with a handpiece and carries fluid toward a surgical site. An aspiration conduit is in fluid communication with the handpiece and carries fluid away from the surgical site. An aspiration pump creates a vacuum pressure in the aspiration conduit to draw fluid through the aspiration conduit towards a drain reservoir. A reservoir couples with a pressure-vacuum source to manage the reservoir pressure. A valve is in fluid communication with the aspiration conduit and the reservoir, and provides one or more channels between the aspiration conduit and the reservoir. Each sensor detects a pressure associated with the surgical site. A computer controls the valve in response to the pressure detected by the one or more pressure sensors to mitigate a pressure or volume change.

System and method for driving an ultrasonic handpiece with a linear amplifier

A control console for a powered surgical tool. The console includes a transformer that supplies the drive signal to the surgical tool. A linear amplifier with active resistors selectively ties the ends of the transformer primary winding between ground and the open circuit state. Feedback voltages from the transformer windings regulate the resistances of the active resistors.

Sonic and ultrasonic contact lens apparatus

Disclosed are methods and apparatus, including eyewear and a contact lens, for delivering sound energy to an eye, comprising two or more sonic or ultrasonic transducers that emit sound energy, wherein each transducer is (i) operably linked to a power source and (b) capable of emitting sound energy at more than one frequency and for a variable time period; and a positioning mechanism to position the transducers at an exterior surface of an eye so as to deliver sound energy to an internal part of the eye, for example the Schlemm's canal or trabecular meshwork.
