DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MEASURING A LOAD APPLIED BY AN ELONGATE MEMBER
There is described a device, such as a wireholder, for measuring a load of an elongate member, such as a power line. The device includes a body, a load-bearing member, and a first sensor operable to measure a load applied to the load-bearing member in a first direction, for example a direction of sensitivity defined by the first sensor. The load-bearing member is movably coupled to the body such that the load-bearing member is displaced from a reference position as a function of a load applied to the load-bearing member in a second direction, such as a direction normal to the first direction. The device may further include a second sensor for measuring a displacement of the load-bearing member.

Also disclosed are articles of manufacture, comprising the shear thinning gel composition, and methods of making article of manufacture having a shear thinning gel composition. Also disclosed are sensors and multiplexed systems utilizing deformable conductors.

The device (10; 10) has a condition monitoring system for determining a deformation and a mounting body (13) with a mounting portion (14; 14) for insertion into the support element (12). The mounting body (13; 13a, 13b; 13a, 13b, 13c) is designed to accommodate the sensor carrier. The sensor carrier (16; 16; 16a, 16b, 16c) includes at least one conductive pathway (17; 17a, 17b), which is electrically conductive and applied along a strip-shaped path for measuring mechanical stress on the mounting portion (14; 14).

A sensor may include a bladder, and a deformable conductor disposed on the bladder such that deformation of the bladder causes deformation of the deformable conductor, wherein the bladder is constrained so as to enhance the deformation of the conductor in response to the deformation of the bladder. A method may include applying a stimulus to a bladder having a deformable conductor attached thereto, detecting a change in an electrical characteristic associated with the deformable conductor in response to the stimulus, and selectively constraining the bladder to amplify the change in electrical characteristic in response to the stimulus.

FORCE SENSING WITH ANALOG-TO-DIGITAL CONVERSION
An apparatus includes a controller; a bendable device having one or more bending segments, each bending segment being configured to bend, rotate, or translate by pulling or pushing a set of drive wires; an actuator device having a plurality of driving portions, each drive wire being connected to a driving portion, each driving portion having a driving source connected to a force sensor configured to detect force of the drive wire and generate an analog force signal in response to the detected force; one or more ADC, wherein the analog force signals of the set of drive wires are generated and communicated to a single ADC configured to convert the analog force signals to digital force signals, the digital force signals being serially communicated to the controller, wherein the controller drives the driving sources based on the digital force signals.
