A method of visualizing the planeness of a ring surface of a container includes lighting the ring surface from above using a peripheral incident light beam having radial rays with specular reflection on the ring surface. An optical system is used to form a plane image of the ring surface on a sensor, with an optical geometrical transformation that converts a real height difference (dZ) into an image radial offset (dR) on the image, and the image radial offset (dR) corresponding to a unit real height difference (dZ) is greater than the image radial offset corresponding to a real radial offset of the same dimension. A device and an installation implementing the visualizing method is also disclosed.

OBJECT POSITION INDEPENDENT METHOD TO MEASURE THE THICKNESS OF COATINGS DEPOSITED ON CURVED OBJECTS MOVING AT HIGH RATES
20190011251 · 2019-01-10 ·

Methods and apparatus for measuring a thickness of a coating on an moving object are provided. Light is directed toward the object at a predetermined location on the object such that a portion of the light interacts with the object. A I D and/or 2D maximum intensities for at least one wavelength channel is captured that is produced by the portion of the light interacting with the object. A measured average intensity of the wavelength channel and/or intensities and their arithmetic derivatives of multi wavelength channel geometries is converted into I D (averaged) and/or 2D thickness values. Based on these values an acceptability of the coating is evaluated and thickness calculated.

A device and method for inspecting glass containers and particularly the finish of glass containers is provided. The glass container inspection device includes a rotator rotates a glass container located in an inspection location at least 360 degrees. A first laser source produces a first laser beam which is directed towards the inspection location to form an angle of incidence with the selected glass container being greater than or equal to a critical angle for producing internal reflection of the first laser beam within the selected glass container. A camera is directed at the inspection location to detect light that escapes from the selected glass container as a result of the internally reflected laser beam intersecting a defect in the selected glass container.
