Multilayer optical film having overlapping harmonics

A multilayer optical film including a stack of microlayers arranged into optical repeat units. At a design angle of incidence, such as normal incidence, the stack provides a 1.sup.st order reflection band, a 2.sup.nd order reflection band, and optionally a 3.sup.rd order reflection band. The 2.sup.nd order reflection band substantially overlaps the 1.sup.st and/or 3.sup.rd order reflection bands to form a single wide reflection band. The wide reflection band may cover at least a portion of visible and infrared wavelengths. The multilayer optical film may include an additional optical layer which maybe be an anti-glare layer and/or may be an absorbing layer. The multilayer optical film is suitable for use as a window film.

Embodiments of the present disclosure include apparatuses and method for stacked polarizer imaging. In a number of embodiments, a method can include activating a first polarization layer of a plurality of polarization layers, detecting a first image with an array of pixels from a light source input that is polarized when passed through the first polarization layer, and determining, via a controller coupled to the array of pixels, whether a quality of the first image that was polarized by the first polarization layer meets a threshold. A stacked polarizer can include a plurality of polarizers that are stacked upon each other such that a light source input can be passed through the stack of polarizers and be detected by a pixel of an image sensor cell. Each of the polarizers in the stack of polarizers can be individually activated and deactivated.

A light reflection film includes at least one light reflection layer RPRL in which a cholesteric liquid crystal phase of a right-handed helical structure having right circularly polarized light reflection ability is fixed; and at least one light reflection layer LPRL in which a cholesteric liquid crystal phase of a left-handed helical structure having left circularly polarized light reflection ability is fixed. A total of three or more layers of the light reflection layer(s) RPRL and the light reflection layer(s) LPRL are laminated. The light reflection layer(s) RPRL and the light reflection layer(s) LPRL laminated each have a selective reflection center wavelength shifted by an interval of 10 nm or more and 160 nm or less between two light reflection layers adjacent to each other.

A display (1000) including a display panel (130) and a polarizer (110) disposed to receive a light (150) output of the display panel (130) is described. The polarizer (150) may be a reflective polarizer (110) or a circular polarizer (100) incorporating a reflective polarizer (110). The display panel (130) includes a plurality of pixels and each pixel includes a plurality of subpixels. The reflective polarizer (110) has a first reflection band, wherein at normal incidence, the first reflection band has a long wavelength band edge wavelength between peak emission wavelengths of two subpixels in the plurality of subpixels. The reflective polarizer (110) may be disposed between an absorbing polarizer (106) and a retarder (108) in a circular polarizer (100). The reflective polarizer (110) may have substantially non-overlapping first, second, and third reflection bands.

Provided is a polarizing plate including an optical functional film and a polarizing film (polarizer), the polarizing plate being thin and excellent in durability of the polarizing film. The polarizing plate of the present invention includes an optical functional film, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, a polarizing film, and a protective film in the stated order, in which: the polarizing film has a thickness of 15 μm or less; the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a thickness of 15 μm or less; the optical functional film has a moisture permeability of 200 g/m.sup.2/24 h or less; and the protective film has a moisture permeability of 1,000 g/m.sup.2/24 h or less.

With the optical compensation film layer inside the liquid crystal panel, contrast ratio is increased in a full-viewing-angle direction, and color shift in a diagonal direction of the liquid crystal pane is alleviated; further, the optical compensation film layer is provided on the color filter sheet of the liquid crystal panel, leading to a compact structure of the liquid crystal panel, reducing production costs and decreasing light leakage and mura phenomenon that are caused by light reflection and refraction; gray level, contrast ratio, color phase or the like of an LCD can be also improved.

The polarizing layer transmits a first polarized component of light incident on an incident surface to an exit surface and reflects a second polarized component of the light. The transparent layer transmits the first and second polarized component of the light incident on a second surface to a first surface adhered to the incident surface and transmits the second polarized component reflected by the polarizing layer to be incident on the first surface to the second surface. The panel faces the exit surface, and selectively transmits the light exiting from the exit surface.

The method for manufacturing a polarizer comprises: providing a flat, semi-finished polarizing product comprising a linear polarizing sheet and a phase difference layer stacked over each other; providing an abutment comprising a supporting plane, wherein at least a portion of an edge of the supporting plane is provided with an accurate chamfer forming a supporting curved surface; fitting the semi-finished polarizing product onto a side of the supporting plane, wherein at least a portion of the supporting curved surface has an orthographic projection, positioned at an edge of the semi-finished polarizing product, in a plane where the semi-finished polarizing product is located; and applying a moist and heated gas to the edge of the semi-finished polarizing product to fit it onto a side of the supporting curved surface.
