The first mode is a mode in which a sheet conveyance unit is controlled so that an arrival time from a passage of a trailing edge of a preceding sheet through a nip portion to an arrival of a leading edge of a succeeding sheet succeeding to the preceding sheet at the nip portion becomes a first time. The second mode is a mode in which the sheet conveyance unit is controlled so that the arrival time becomes a second time. The third mode is a mode in which the sheet conveyance unit is controlled so that the arrival time becomes a third time. The second time is longer than the first time, and the third time is longer than the second time.

A controller drives both of the first and second motors when resuming conveyance of a sheet conveyed on a duplex conveyance path after causing the sheet to await abutment with the second roller.

The first unit detects a first length, along a predetermined conveyance direction, of paper conveyed from a feed port. The registration unit registers a size corresponding to the first and the second lengths of the paper set in the feed port, based on second unit detection. The first unit detects the first length of first paper conveyed to print a predetermined test pattern before second paper is set in the feed port. The registration unit registers a regular size based on a result of first unit detection on the first paper from among regular sizes corresponding to a result of second unit detection on the second paper.

The first processor is configured to perform transport preparation for transporting the sheet at the transporter and receive, from the second processor, a completion notification corresponding to a preparation command, for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section, transmitted to the second processor via an inside of the housing, and subsequently cause the transporter to transport the sheet and the first image forming section to form the image.

The hardware processor causes a detector that detects an edge of the sheet in the width direction to detect the edge of the sheet after displacement of the sheet conveying member has been started, and causes the displacement to be terminated on the basis of the detected result such that the edge of the sheet reaches a target position.

A digital printing system having a linear printhead includes corrections for in-track position errors. A data processing system implements a method for determining an in-track position function which includes printing a test target including a plurality of alignment marks, automatically analyzing a captured image of the printed test target to determine a measured in-track position for each of the alignment marks, comparing the measured in-track positions for the alignment marks to reference in-track positions to determine measured in-track position errors, and determining an in-track position correction function responsive to the measured in-track position errors. The in-track position correction function specifies in-track position corrections to be applied as a function of cross-track position. A corrected digital image is determined by resampling an input digital image responsive to the in-track position correction function.

An image forming apparatus includes: a transfer unit, a fixing unit, a sway roller pair constituted of a pair of rollers, a first detector and a hardware processor. The transfer unit transfers an image onto paper. The fixing unit fixes, to the paper, the image transferred onto the paper by the transfer unit. The sway roller pair conveys the paper to the transfer unit, the paper being conveyed to the sway roller pair. The first detector is provided on a downstream side of the transfer unit but on an upstream side of the fixing unit and detects a position of a side edge of the paper. The hardware processor performs sway control of the sway roller pair based on a detection result of the detection by the first detector.

A sheet conveying device, which is incorporated in an image forming apparatus, includes a first detector to detect an angle deviation of a recording medium to a sheet conveying direction, a second detector to detect a lateral shift of the recording medium to a width direction, a third detector to detect at least one of the angle deviation and the lateral shift after correction of the angle deviation detected by the first detector and the lateral shift detected by the second detector, and a rotary body to perform a primary movement by (1) rotating in the sheet conveying direction and returning to a reference position and by (2) moving in the width direction and returning to the reference position, and a secondary movement by performing at least one of (1) and (2) after the primary movement.
