An image forming system includes a processing tray, a detecting unit, a stapling unit, a discharge tray, an instruction unit, and a control unit. Recording material, placed on the processing tray, is detected by the detecting unit. When instructed, the stapling unit can staple the detected recording material. Stapled recording material then is discharged to the discharge tray. The control unit controls switching between a first mode wherein a stapling process is executed and a second mode where the stapling unit executes the stapling process after the detecting unit detects recording material inserted into the processing tray and the execution instruction are received. If an instruction to interrupt a power supply of the image forming system is received in the second mode, the control unit causes recording material inserted into the processing tray to discharge to the discharge tray and then interrupts the power supply without the stapling process executing.

An image forming apparatus configured to form an image on a sheet includes a main body, an opening and closing part, a link part, and an urging member. The link part is connected to the main body and the opening and closing part. When the opening and closing part moves between open and closed positions, the link part moves perpendicular to a direction along a rotating shaft of the link part to contact and be received by the main body. The opening and closing part can move in a state in which the link part and the main body contact each other. When the opening and closing part is in the closed position, the link part and the main body are separated from each other, and the opening and closing part is urged toward the main body by the link part urged by the urging member.

A sheet conveying device includes a pair of conveyors each including a conveyance face to convey a recording medium inside an image forming apparatus. The handle is exposed to the outside of the apparatus and operatable to expose the conveyance face to the outside of the apparatus while the inside of the apparatus is open. The swing fulcrum swings the one of the pair of conveyors to expose the conveyance face to the outside of the apparatus when the handle is operated while the inside of the apparatus is open. The handle includes a partial annular portion. The partial annular portion is included in a plane including a swing direction around the swing fulcrum.

A sheet conveyance device includes a sheet receiving part, a first discharge part, a sheet conveyance path, an escape conveyance path, a branch guide, an escape tray, a second discharge part, and a first sheet detection part. When a device failure occurs, the branch guide switches the conveyance direction such that the sheet remaining on the sheet conveyance path is discharged on the escape tray by the second discharge part, through the escape conveyance path sequentially. Then, the second discharge part stops a discharging of the sheet in a state where the sheet remains in the second discharge part when the sheet is a last sheet to be conveyed to the escape tray. Then, a receiving of a new sheet to the sheet receiving part from the image forming apparatus is inhibited while the first sheet detection part detects the last sheet.
