An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of members for forming an image; a transmitting unit configured to transmit a sonic wave; a receiving unit configured to receive a first sonic wave that has been transmitted from the transmitting unit and has passed through a sheet and a second sonic wave that is generated from at least one of the plurality of members; a detection unit configured to detect information regarding a type or state of the sheet based on the first sonic wave; and a determination unit configured to determine a state of a member that has generated the second sonic wave based on the second sonic wave.

An image formation apparatus includes an image former and a detection sensor. The image former forms an image on paper delivered in a first paper delivery path. The detection sensor includes an irradiator and an acquirer. The irradiator and the acquirer are arranged at positions facing each other through the first paper delivery path. The irradiator irradiates the paper with a predetermined pattern image while the paper is passing through the detection sensor. The acquirer acquires a calculation image including a transmission image formed after the predetermined pattern image has been transmitted through the paper. In the image formation apparatus, the degree of image expansion is calculated from a predetermined area including the transmission image in the calculation image, and printing conditions are adjusted according to the degree of image expansion.

An image forming apparatus includes a storing unit that stores information associated with a sheet type of a sheet and a sheet feed source, of a plurality of sheet feed sources, a selection unit that selects a sheet feed source from the plurality of sheet feeding sources based on at least a sheet type designated by a job and the stored information, and a feeding unit that feeds a sheet from the selected sheet feed source. The image forming apparatus also includes an image forming unit that forms an image on the sheet fed by the feeding unit, and a detector that detects a sheet type of the sheet fed from one of the plurality of sheet feed sources by the feeding unit. The storing unit stores the sheet type detected by the detector as the information indicating the sheet type of sheet stored in the sheet feeding source.

A recording material characteristic detecting device that irradiates a first light and a second light to a recording material carried along a predetermined carrying path and detects a transmitted light generated when the first light transmits the recording material and a reflection light generated when the second light is reflected by the recording material, and detects a characteristic of the recording material, comprises: a reflection light source that irradiates the second light toward the carrying path; a reference plate for reflection light arranged oppositely to the reflection light source across the carrying path to reflect the second light; and a light detector arranged oppositely to the reference plate for reflection light across the carrying path to detect at least a reflection light generated in response to reflection of the second light. The reference plate has a higher reflectivity to the second light than a reflectivity to the first light.

An image forming apparatus includes: a sheet feeding tray that stares a sheet; a sheet thickness measurement device that measures a sheet thickness of the sheet fed from the sheet feeding tray; a hardware processor that: determines a type of the sheet of which the sheet thickness is measured, a sheet type associated with each of sheet thickness ranges, and the sheet thickness measured by the sheet thickness measurement device; and adjusts a first sheet thickness range by expanding the first sheet thickness range to at least one of an upper limit value side or a lower limit value side; and an image former that forms an image on the sheet fed from the sheet feeding tray under image forming conditions corresponding to the sheet type determined by the hardware processor.

An image forming apparatus includes: a sheet feeding tray that stores a sheet; a sheet thickness measurement device that measures a sheet thickness of the sheet fed from the sheet feeding tray; a hardware processor that: determines a type of the sheet of which the sheet thickness is measured, a sheet type associated with each of sheet thickness ranges, and the sheet thickness measured by the sheet thickness measurement device; and adjusts a first sheet thickness range by expanding the first sheet thickness range to at least one of an upper limit value side or a lower limit value side; and an image former that forms an image on the sheet fed from the sheet feeding tray under image forming conditions corresponding to the sheet type determined by the hardware processor.

A sheet type determining device including a guide that guides a sheet along a sheet conveyance path to a destination. The sheet conveyance path is between a first guide surface and a second guide surface facing each other across an interval. The sheet type determining device further includes a determiner that determines a sheet type when the sheet is in the sheet conveyance path, without having contact with the sheet in conveyance, and one or more regulators that regulate a displacement range of the sheet at a determining position, the displacement range being in a direction of the interval of the first and the second guide surfaces. Each of the regulators is a member that protrudes in an arc shape from the first or the second guide surface toward the guide surface opposite, and is spaced from the guide surface or another one of the regulators opposite.

A print control apparatus capable of communicating with a printing apparatus, including a sheet holding unit in which a sheet to be used for printing is held, for printing an image on the sheet held in the sheet holding unit includes storage configured to store a type of a sheet, an image, and a setting value of the printing apparatus in association with each other, selects a type of a sheet to be used for printing by the printing apparatus, selects an image to be printed by the printing apparatus, and sets the setting value stored in the storage in association with the selected type of the sheet and the selected image.

In accordance with an embodiment, an image forming apparatus comprises a printing setting acquisition section and a printer section. The printing setting acquisition section acquires printing setting information for holding setting at the time of printing for each kind of a sheet. The printer section applies, in a case in which a label paper is selected as the kind of the sheet, a developing agent in the vicinity of an area coming into contact with an end part of the sheet in an area on an image carrier for transferring the developing agent to the sheet, transfers the developing agent by a transfer member for transferring the developing agent from the image carrier to the sheet, and rotates the transfer member at least once.
