The operation environment-related condition is a condition for granting an error tolerance for a transmission path of which a bus path length to another communication device, which is a destination of the data, is greater than a predetermined value.

An information handling system includes a network interface device coupled to a network, a memory including first code to instantiate an operating system including an exception handler and second code to instantiate an exception handler interface and a UNDI module, and a processor to execute the first code and the second code. The network interface device is responsive to a Universal Network Device Interface (UNDI) command. The operating system detects an exception and invokes the exception handler to write a stack frame associated with the exception to the memory in response to detecting the exception. The exception handler interface determines that the stack frame has been written in the memory and directs the UNDI module to provide the UNDI command to the network interface device to communicate the stack frame to the network.

In a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) system, a first PCIe apparatus determines that at least one of lanes of a link between the first PCIe apparatus and a second PCIe apparatus is disabled, wherein the link includes M lanes numbered in a first order. Based upon the determination, the first PCIe apparatus obtains a number N indicating a number of available lanes of the link by performing a lane negotiation with the second PCIe apparatus. Then, a processor determines that N<M/2. Based upon the determination, the first PCIe apparatus re-numbers at least some of the lanes of the link in a reverse order opposite to the first order as instructed by the processor. At last, the first PCIe apparatus continue to perform a negotiation with the second PCIe apparatus to obtain available lanes.

Link speed downshifting for error determination and performance enhancements

Various embodiments for regulating link speed for performance enhancement and port diagnosis are provided. In response to identifying an amount of errors in a communications link above a predetermined threshold, an applicable transmission speed is selectively reduced. If errors identified at the reduced transmission speed are found to decrease, a communications port incorporating the communications link is flagged as potentially dirty, and if the errors identified at the reduced transmission speed are found to remain constant, the communications port is flagged as potentially bad.
