A system may have a mobile device having at least two wheels and a distance measuring device configured to be removably attached to a frame of the mobile device, which can be a mobility assistance device, such as a walker and a wheelchair. The distance measuring device may have at least a sensing mechanism, an accumulator, and a display that are in communication with one another, with the sensing mechanism configured to monitor rotation of the at least one of the at least two wheels of the mobile device and the accumulator configured to determine the distance traveled by the mobile device based on this rotation and output the distance result on the display.

A conveyance for surmounting obstacles which includes a first ground engaging arrangement, and a second ground engaging arrangement, and the first and second ground engaging arrangements are operable to move in an alternating sequence of movements to enable the conveyance to surmount obstacles. The conveyance is statically balanced alternately by one then the other of the ground engaging arrangements throughout the sequence of movements. Each ground engaging arrangement includes a forwardly disposed portion and a rearwardly disposed portion which are spaced apart from one another. Each ground engaging arrangement further includes an obstacle accommodating region located between the forwardly disposed portion and the rearwardly disposed portion which can accommodate a portion of an obstacle being surmounted during use.

The ratcheting/pawl drive system may be included in a novel wheelchair or may be integrated into existing standard wheelchairs as a retrofit kit.

The sanitary chair forms a seat that is a configured for use in a shower and with a commode. A patient sits on a horizontal surface formed by the sanitary chair. One dimension of the horizontal surface is adjustable. The sanitary chair comprises a plurality of legs, a base structure, a rail, a seat cushion, a folding cushion, and a back rest. The base structure forms the horizontal seating surface of the sanitary chair. The plurality of legs raise the base structure above the supporting surface. The seat cushion and the folding cushion forms the horizontal seating surface of the supporting chair. The back rest is a vertically oriented structure that supports the back of the patient. The rail, the seating cushion, the folding cushion, and the back rest are attached to the base structure.

Disclosed is a device for converting a manual wheelchair into an electronic wheelchair is provided. The device includes a joystick, a communication unit, a motor, a retractable friction roller, an engagement unit and a power source. The joystick is operably connected to a communication unit. The communication unit is operably connected to a motor. The motor includes an axle connected to a rotor. The retractable friction roller is mounted on the axle. The roller is placed in contact with a wheel of a manual wheelchair. The engagement unit is attached to the manual wheelchair to detachably attach the friction roller and the wheel. The power source is operably connected to the motor and the joystick.

An apparatus for facilitating user propulsion of a wheelchair having a frame for supporting a user and a pair of rear wheels that rotate about an axis. The apparatus includes a handgrip having an outer surface and an opposite, inner surface such that when a radial force relative to the axis is applied to the outer surface by the user the inner surface is configured to engage a rear wheel in the pair of rear wheels such that the rear wheel can be rotated and the wheelchair propelled. A pair of coupling members configured to couple the handgrip to the frame and hold the handgrip in a neutral position, and the pair of coupling members are further configured to alternately increase in length and become tensioned as the user moves the handgrip away from the neutral position to rotate the wheel.
