Motion-based power assist system for wheelchairs
11065166 · 2021-07-20 · ·

A motion-based push activation power assist system for manual wheelchairs. The system uses motion-based measurements to determine when the user applies a push to the wheelchair handrims and brakes with the handrims. The push recognition activates a drive system that provides an assistive driving force-pulse to the wheelchair to reduce the demand on the user during propulsion. The brake recognition deactivates the power assist. The provided power assist is proportional to the sensed push and can be modulated to different proportional settings.

Drive control system for powered wheelchair

A powered wheelchair is operated by sensor-based control pads that include force transducers to produce a variable output signal that is proportional to a varying force applied. The control pad provides an analog-type output that provides a variable speed signal to a controller to operate the wheelchair at a variable speed in both forward/reverse directions and in right or left turning directions.

ELECTRICAL POWER ASSISTANCE DEVICE FOR TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIR
20210275370 · 2021-09-09 ·

An electrical power assistance device designed to be removably coupled to existing transport wheelchairs to provide electric power to aid in transportation of a person sitting in the wheelchair, while being detachable to allow the transport chair to fold up for easy storage in a car or other vehicle. The electrical power assistance device includes a motor powered by a rechargeable battery, where the motor drives an internal shaft which rotates a pair of friction wheels. A clutch, provided on a separate axle coupled to the friction wheels by eccentric disks, allows the friction wheels to engage or disengage with the rear wheels of the transport wheelchair.

Electric wheelchair control system and electric wheelchair control method

An electric wheelchair control system is adapted to control a wheelchair and comprises a sensing assembly, an inertial sensor, a controller, a motor driver, and a three-phase AC motor. The sensing assembly is configured to detect an external force applied to the wheelchair and generate a first sensed signal based thereon. The inertial sensor is configured to detect an inclination of the wheelchair and generate a second sensed signal based thereon. The controller selectively outputs a PWM braking signal to the motor driver according to the first sensed signal and the second sensed signal, and the PWM braking signal includes an upper arm braking signal and a lower arm braking signal, wherein the upper arm braking signal and the lower arm braking signal have the same duty cycle and when the upper arm braking signal is at a high level, the lower arm braking signal is at a low level.

Adjustable seat comfort wheelchair

An adjustable seat comfort wheelchair for maximizing comfort and convenience includes a chair base, a chair seat with a chair back, a headrest, a pair of armrests, a seat bottom, and a footrest. An electric drive train is coupled to the chair base and comprises: a battery compartment housing a rechargeable battery, a motor that is in operational communication with the rechargeable battery, a drive chain coupled to the motor, a pair of rear wheels that are driven by the motor coupled to the drive chain, a steering linkage, a pair of front wheels, a steering actuator, a control module, a lift piston, and a control stick that is in operational communication with the control module to operate the motor, the steering actuator, and the lift piston. The lift piston lifts the seat bottom to a lifted position to assist the user in standing.

WHEELCHAIR PROPULSION ASSISTANCE DEVICES AND SYSTEMS

A wheelchair can comprise a frame and a plurality of wheels rotatably attached to the frame, and a motor coupled to the frame. A power source can be configured to power the motor. A drive shaft can be coupled to the motor. A first sprocket can be coupled to the drive shaft. A second sprocket can be configured to be rotationally fixed to a wheel of the plurality of wheels. A drive belt or chain can extend between the first sprocket and the second sprocket. An input device can be configured to receive an input from an operator and, in response to receiving the input, cause the motor to rotate.

Power assist apparatus for hand-propelled wheelchairs
11103394 · 2021-08-31 ·

A power assist apparatus that converts a hand-propelled wheelchair to a motorized wheelchair without use of tools or mounting brackets. The apparatus has a first motorized section and a support assembly associated with one drive wheel of the wheelchair and a second motorized section and a support assembly associated with the other drive wheel. The motorized sections, each having a motor and a wheel, are connected together but operate independently. Each support assembly has an outrigger assembly with outwardly extending arms that support the drive wheels above the surface to be traversed. The apparatus has a control mechanism controlling the motors and a positioning sensor mechanism determining movement of the outrigger assemblies to transmit positional information to the control mechanism and move the apparatus and wheelchair in the direction indicated by the drive wheels, thereby controlling movement of the apparatus in the same manner as the non-motorized wheelchair.
