To improve body rigidity during unfolding of a foldable wheelchair, a wheelchair includes a support arm 40 that couples a left side frame and a right side frame and is folded in a central portion in a left-right direction; a footrest that couples a front end portion of the left side frame and a front end portion of the right side frame and is folded in a central portion in the left-right direction; and a rod that connects the central portion of the support arm in the left-right direction and the central portion of the footrest in the left-right direction.

To facilitate attachment of a seat and suppress rattling of the attached seat, a seat frame is provided with a frame abutment section that abuts a side frame from one side in a left-right direction; an abutment member that abuts the side frame from the other side in the left-right direction; and a shaft member that supports the abutment member in a manner to allow rotation thereof about an axis extending in a body front-rear direction with respect to a body portion of the seat frame. The side frame includes a convex section that protrudes upward, the convex section pressing the abutment member from below during attachment of the seat frame and thereby causing the abutment member to rotate in a direction in which a portion of the abutment member below the axis abuts the side frame.

To facilitate unfolding of a wheelchair outside a vehicle by a simple one-handed operation even in a seated state on a driver's seat of the vehicle, a wheelchair includes an upper support arm and a lower support arm, each of which couples a left side frame and a right side frame and is folded in an up-down direction in a central portion thereof in a left-right direction. A tensioning member having a flexibility is coupled to the upper support arm and the lower support arm; and a grip section is attached to the tensioning member. The upper support arm and the lower support arm, when each of which is in a folded state, are urged in an unfolding direction by a predetermined tensile force input to the tensioning member.

A folding wheelchair which prevents unexpected unfolding includes an upper support arm and a lower support arm coupling a left side frame and a right side frame foldable in an up-down direction in central portions thereof in a left-right direction. An engaged section is provided in at least one of the upper support arm and the lower support arm. An engagement section engages the engaged section to prevent relative displacement in the up-down direction of the central portions of the upper support arm and the lower support arm in the left-right direction. An operation section switches operation of the engagement section from an engagement state with the engaged section to an unengaged state.

Rotatable Swing Arm Stabilizer Assembly For Folding Wheelchairs

A swing arm assembly for a foldable wheelchair consisting of a camber tube and adapters is disclosed. The adapters mount to the frame of the wheelchair and receive the ends of the camber tube. One end of the camber tube is pinned into an adapter such that it pivots. The other end is pinned in an adapter using a quick release pin. The camber tube improves the stability of the foldable wheelchair. When desired to fold the wheelchair, the quick release pin is removed and the camber tube is rotated approximately 90 degrees, thereby allowing the wheelchair to fold. The adapters may be mounted to the wheelchair frame or to stub axles if used. The swing arm assembly adds substantial stiffness and stability to a folding wheelchair.

Wheelchair

To make it easier to lift and move a wheelchair by keeping casters from hanging even when the wheelchair is lifted by one hand, a wheelchair includes a folding mechanism that couples a left-side support arm and a right-side support arm foldably in a left-right direction of the vehicle body. The folding mechanism includes an operation part for use in changing a state of a left-side support arm and a right-side support arm from one of a folded state or an unfolded state to another. The operation part is arranged between a rear drive wheel and a caster in a side view of the vehicle body.

Wheelchair

It is an object to improve riding comfort of a wheelchair having a folding mechanism by keeping an operation part of the folding mechanism from contacting a wheelchair user seated. A folding mechanism includes an operation part for use in changing a state of a left-side support arm and a right-side support arm from one of a folded state or an unfolded state to another. The operation part is arranged below an upper end part of a seat frame with a predetermined space therebetween.

An electrical power assistance device designed to be removably coupled to existing transport wheelchairs to provide electric power to aid in transportation of a person sitting in the wheelchair, while being detachable to allow the transport chair to fold up for easy storage in a car or other vehicle. The electrical power assistance device includes a motor powered by a rechargeable battery, where the motor drives an internal shaft which rotates a pair of friction wheels. A clutch, provided on a separate axle coupled to the friction wheels by eccentric disks, allows the friction wheels to engage or disengage with the rear wheels of the transport wheelchair.
