An asset tracking system that has a master notification unit, a reader relay unit in communication with the master notification unit, and a tag configured to be coupled to an asset. When the reader relay unit identifies a tag, the reader relay unit sends a signal to the master notification unit providing both a tag identifier and a reader relay unit identifier.

Variable RFID transmit power adjustment based on surrounding environment to enhance tag detection field

A method for operating a sensor includes receiving identification information from one or more electronic identification devices (EIDs) located in a vicinity of the sensor. A number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor is determined based on the received identification information. A determination is made if the number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor exceeds a first predefined threshold. Transmission power to the sensor is selectively adjusted based on the number of EIDs with respect to the first predefined threshold, in response to determining that the number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor exceeds or is less than any number of predefined thresholds.

Method and system for reading/writing data from/on RFID tags integrated/applied in/on tires conveyed on conveyor belts

A system and method is provided for reading and/or writing data from/on RFID tags of tires conveyed on a conveyor belt in a conveyance direction, wherein each tire is fitted with a respective RFID tag storing a univocal identifier of said tire. An antenna is installed over or nearby the conveyor belt and configured to radiate RF signals toward a footprint area on the conveyor belt and receive backscattered RF signals from said footprint area. A reader is connected to the antenna to operate the latter in transmission and reception. A preliminary calibration step is applied to the reader and a reading and/or writing step is carried out by operating the calibrated reader.

Dynamic power levels in NFC card communications

Various embodiments are directed to dynamically and temporarily adjusting power to an NFC reader of a computing device from a first power level to a second power level based on a feedback mechanism between a contactless card and the computing device. The contactless card may provide a message containing a checksum. The computing device may receive the message and calculate a checksum based on the received message. By comparing these two checksums, it may be determined whether the entire message has been correctly received. If not, the power to the NFC reader may be temporarily increased to allow better communication between the contactless card and the computing device.

DETERMINING DEVICE COMPATIBILITY USING TAG DEVICES

Methods, apparatus, and computer program products that determine compatibility between devices using tag devices are disclosed herein. One method includes a processor transmitting a charging signal and receiving a respective response signal from multiple tag devices responsive to the charging signal. Each respective response signal includes configuration data for a particular first device associated with each respective tag device for determining compatibility between each first device and a second device. Apparatus and computer program products that determine compatibility between devices using tag devices are also disclosed herein.

INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD, AND COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM

An apparatus for context-based credit card reader management is provided that includes a point-of sale (POS) terminal, configured to accept employee login credentials via a magnetic stripe card, to display menu items for selection, to add selected menu items to an order, and to accept payment for the order, where the payment may be obtained via swipe, dip, or tap. The POS terminal has a card reader and a reader controller. The card reader reads provided cards when fully powered and enabled. The reader controller is coupled to the card reader, and determines one or more workflow states of the POS terminal, and dynamically controls power states of the card reader according to the one or more workflow states.

RFID READ AND WRITE POWER SETTING SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system and method for configuring Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) read and write power levels includes an RFID module that generates RF signals, a digital step attenuator that attenuates RF signals, an antenna that transmits attenuated RF signals, and an RF shield that isolates the antenna from an RFID label supply roll. A floor read power is determined by iteratively interrogating an RFID label while decreasing the RF signal power until the label fails to respond to the interrogation. A ceiling read power is determined by iteratively interrogating the RFID label while increasing the RF signal power until multiple labels respond to the interrogation. The read power level is set between the floor read power and the ceiling read power. The write power level is determined by iteratively attempting to program the RFID module while increasing the write power from the read power level until successfully written.
