In a system, mobile terminal and a reader are communicable with each other. In the mobile terminal, a terminal tilt state is detected by a detecting unit as a terminal environmental state, an information code is generated such that the detected terminal environmental state and predetermined information are recorded in the information code, and the generated information code is displayed on the screen of a display unit. In the reader, a reading surface tilt state corresponding to the terminal environmental state is detected by a detecting unit as a reading surface environmental state. When the reader reads the information code and the detected reading surface environmental state and the detected terminal environmental state show the same environmental state, the read predetermined information is used by a control unit to perform processing based on the predetermined information.

In one embodiment, a navigation system may include at least one self-describing fiducial with a communication element to communicate navigation state estimation aiding information comprising a geographic position of the self-describing fiducial with respect to one or more coordinate systems and a first navigating object to receive navigation information from an exterior system, receive navigation state estimation aiding information from the self-describing fiducial, and compare the navigation information received from the exterior system to the navigation state estimation aiding information to improve navigation parameters of the first navigating object.

In one embodiment, a self-describing fiducial includes a communication element that optically communicates navigation-aiding information. The navigation-aiding information may include a position of the self-describing fiducial with respect to one or more coordinate systems and the communication element communicates the navigation-aiding information to one or more navigating objects in the vicinity of the self-describing fiducial. In another embodiment, the communication element is further configured to communicate supplementary information describing a spatial relationship between the self-describing fiducial and the surrounding environment.

Techniques for generating and processing two-dimensional barcodes are described. One example method includes identifying original content to be encoded in a two-dimensional (2D) barcode structure; and generating a 2D barcode associated with the original content based on at least the 2D barcode structure and the original content, wherein the 2D barcode structure includes at least an identification field and a data field, and the identification field indicates one or more data elements in the data field.

In one implementation, a system for automatically profiling pallets includes a frame defining an opening that is sized and shaped for a pallet to pass through, and cameras mounted to the frame, the cameras being configured to capture images of a pallet as it passes through the frame. The system further includes a profiling computer system that is configured to receive the images captured by the cameras and to automatically profile the pallet based, at least in part, on analysis of the images. Automatically profiling the pallet includes generating a point cloud representing the pallet based on the images, determining a size of the pallet based on the point cloud generated from images of the pallet, identifying contents of the pallet based on the images, and providing pallet information identifying, at least, the size and contents of the pallet to a warehouse management system in association with the pallet.
