Segment Extension Based on Lookalike Selection

Systems and techniques are disclosed for creating segments of users that include baseline users having specified traits and users that are similar to the baseline users. A segment is created by identifying baseline users based on a segment rule that specifies one or more traits of the users to include. The data about the baseline and other users in the dataset is used to extend the segment. A representation of the segment is determined, for example, by determining average values of numeric traits and frequencies of non-numeric trait values of the baseline users in the segment. The representation of the segment is used to determine the similarity (i.e., similarity scores) of users to the segment and ultimately to determine which of the other users, who are not already included in the segment, should be included in the segment based the similarity of their traits to those of the segment representation.

Inserting a search box into a mobile terminal dialog messaging protocol
10230672 · 2019-03-12 · ·

A method, system, and computer program product for inserting a search box into a mobile terminal messaging dialog. Upon receiving a dialog message (e.g., an email message) from a first user device, the method determines the format (e.g., IMAP) of the dialog message in order to insert a similarly-formatted search box. Then, the method modifies the dialog message by inserting the selected search box into the dialog message. The method receives a request from a second user (at a mobile terminal) and the method transmits the outbound dialog message with the inserted search box to the second user's mobile terminal. The second user's mobile terminal supports a web browser, and some dialog messages include pre-populated text in the search box, the pre-populated text based on the dialog message from the first user device. The second user browses using the inserted search box without having to explicitly launch a browser.

Generating add-on item deals in an electronic marketplace

This disclosure presents techniques for selecting an add-on item to present to consumers at a check-out user interface of an electronic marketplace. The selection techniques involve presenting a consumer with a selection of add-on items that are unrelated to items added by the consumer to her shopping cart. The check-out user interface can present the consumer with a one-time offer to add the add-on item to her shopping cart. In some examples, the add-on items can represent over-stocked items or items that a supplier is attempting to liquidate. Further, the selection techniques can minimize the additional labor cost of retrieving the add-on item from a fulfillment center, by selecting add-on items that are located within a close physical proximity to items that the consumer has already added to her shopping cart.

Entertainment event ticket purchase and exchange system

An electronic ticket exchange system offers tickets using a market-making system. Patrons submit bids, for seats of different quality, and an initial price is established for each quality of seat. A trading system provides for a secondary market in which patrons who have purchased tickets for an event can readily sell them to other patrons. All of the rights associated with a ticket, such as entry into the venue, parking privileges, designated seating, etc., are stored in a electronic form. An electronic venue entry control system verifies that a person owns an electronic ticket property right, and authorizes the privileges associated with the ticket. A seating system is employed to determine an optimal seating configuration based upon patron-specific preferences, after the initial sale of tickets and prior to entry into the venue. The specific assigned seats are indicated to the ticket holder at the time of entry.

Apparatus, method and article for authentication, security and control of power storage devices, such as batteries

A network of collection, charging and distribution machines collect, charge and distribute portable electrical energy storage devices (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors or ultracapacitors). To charge, the machines employ electrical current from an external source, such as the electrical grid or an electrical service of an installation location. By default, each portable electrical energy storage device is disabled from accepting a charge unless it receives authentication information from an authorized collection, charging and distribution machine, other authorized charging device, or other authorized device that transmits the authentication credentials. Also, by default, each portable electrical energy storage device is disabled from releasing energy unless it receives authentication information from an external device to which it will provide power, such as a vehicle or other authorization device.

Single system for authenticating entities across different third party platforms

Some embodiments provide an independent authentication system for authenticating entities that have registered accounts across different online service providers on behalf of the service providers. The authentication system maintains a database of previously verified entity information. A service provider requests authentication by providing the authentication system with unverified and basic identifying information used by an entity when registering with the service provider. The authentication system attempts to match the registration information against previously verified information for a known entity. When a match is found, the authentication system generates a series of challenge questions. The questions are submitted to the entity through the service provider and answers are processed in order to authenticate the entity. Authentication is thus provided on behalf of the service provider without the service provider accessing the previously verified information and without the service provider independently verifying the information within the generated challenge questions.
