Energy-efficient mobile advertising
Various technologies described herein pertain to prefetching advertisements for mobile advertising. A prediction model for estimating a number of advertisements that a mobile client is likely to request during an upcoming prediction time period can be employed. An estimated total amount of time of likely interaction with application(s) executed by the mobile client can be predicted; based upon such prediction, a number of advertisement slots likely to be available and a probability of each of the advertisement slots being available can be computed. Moreover, an ad server can allocate advertisements in a pending advertisement queue and/or disparate advertisements collected from an ad exchange to the mobile client based upon the number of advertisement slots likely to be available, the probability of each of the advertisements slots being available, and aggregated probabilities of the pending advertisements in the pending advertisement queue being displayed prior to corresponding deadlines for expiration.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR SELECTING CONTENT BASED ON LINKED DEVICES
The present disclosure is directed to associating computing devices with each other based on computer network activity for selection of content items as part of an online content item placement campaign. A first linking factor is identified based on a connection between a first device and the computer network via a first IP address during a first time period, and based on a connection between a second device and the computer network via the first IP address during the first time period. A number of devices that connect with the computer network via the first IP address is determined. A positive match probability is generated. A second and third linking factors are monitored. A negative match probability is determined based on the second and third linking factors. The first device is linked with the second device based on the positive and negative match probabilities.
Evaluating Content Items For Presentation To An Online System User Based In Part On Content External To The Online System Associated With The Content Items
An online system receives advertisement (ad) requests for presentation to online system users. An ad request may include an identifier of a landing page identifying a source external to the online system from which content is retrieved and presented to a user who interacts with content from the ad request. The online system determines a quality score for the source based on a frequency with which online system users request content from the source via the online system and various types of interactions by online system users with content associated with the source that is presented by the online system (e.g., interactions with content associated with the source indicating user interest in the source). Based on the quality score for the source, the online system modifies a score for the ad request used by the online system to determine whether to present content form the ad request to a user.
MESSAGE TRANSMITTAL STRATEGY OPTIMIZATION
An example method of message routing includes: receiving, by one or more processors, a request to send a message to a specified user of a plurality of users of a communication services platform; providing a user profile of the specified user to a communication channel selection model, wherein the user profile characterizes actions of one or more predefined action types that were performed by the specified user in response to receiving previous communications; identifying, based on the output of the communication channel selection model, a preferred communication channel for communicating with the specified user; determining, based on the preferred communication channel, a communication strategy for the specified user; and causing, pursuant to the communication strategy, a message to be sent to the specified user.
Analysis of debit card compared to credit card use
An example computing device includes: a processor; and a system memory, the system memory including instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the computing device to: identify a financial account associated with debit card use; parse financial transactions associated with the financial account to identify debit card transactions; categorize the debit card transactions into categories based upon types of merchants; map the categories to incentives associated with a credit card; and present potential savings associated with the incentives.
Targeted advertising and customized display of advertisements in satellite broadcasting
Selecting a content filler from a plurality of content fillers in a satellite broadcast comprises receiving a content in a first broadcast frequency channel, and a plurality of content fillers in a respective plurality of second broadcast frequency channels, wherein the content includes a gap in content to be filled by one of the plurality of content fillers, the gap in content defined by a start indicator and an end indicator. The receiver transmits the content to a display device. The receiver determines a second broadcast frequency channel, from among the plurality of second broadcast frequency channels and responsive to receiving the start indicator, switches to the determined second broadcast frequency channel, transmits the content filler in the determined second broadcast frequency channel to the display device. Responsive to receiving the end indicator, the receiver switches to the first broadcast frequency channel and transmits the content to the display device.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GRAPHICALLY BUILDING WEIGHTED SEARCH QUERIES
A system and method allow a user to define a search request by selecting and weighting graphical icons provided on a search creation interface. The graphical icons may be selected by using an icon selection feature provided on the search creation interface. The graphical icons may further be assigned relative search weights using an icon weighting feature provided on the search creation interface. The system and method generate search results based on metadata associated with the selected ones of the graphical icons and the search weights assigned to each of the selected ones of the graphical icons. The search results may comprise a ranked list of items, such as products listed for sale on an e-commerce server.
METHODS AND APPARATUS TO ANALYZE AND ADJUST AGE DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
Example methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture to facilitate analysis and adjustment of demographic information for monitored audience members are disclosed. Disclosed example methods include receiving a data set including media exposure data and associated data from at least one of a panelist database and a user account database. Disclosed example methods include measuring the data set to determine a probability distribution of user age in the data set according to a first model. Disclosed example methods include comparing the probability distribution of user age to a threshold. Disclosed example methods include adjusting, based on the comparison of the probability distribution of user age to the threshold, the probability distribution to an adjusted probability distribution by replacing the probability distribution with a degenerate distribution. Disclosed example methods include generating audience measurement information based on the data set and the probability distribution and/or the adjusted probability distribution.
Queue-based head-end advertisement scheduling method and apparatus
A method and apparatus for scheduling and inserting advertisements into a plurality of presentation channels in a communications network in which the presentation channels contain the same programming, but different advertisements. A single programming channel is split into a plurality of presentation channels. Different advertisements are inserted into the different presentation channels. The advertisements to be inserted into advertising avails are they are detected are determined by utilizing queues stored in memory corresponding to each presentation channel. Each queue comprises an ordered list of advertisement resource locators (ARLs), in which the order dictates which advertisement is to be inserted in the next advertising avail and in which the ARLs indicate at least the location from which the advertisement can be retrieved.
