In a method for delivering targeted television advertisements based on online behavior, IP addresses indicating online access devices and IP addresses indicating television set-top boxes are electronically associated for a multitude of users. Using user profile information derived from online activity from one of the online access IP addresses, a television advertisement is selected, such as by using behavioral targeting or demographic information, and automatically directed to the set-top box indicated by the set-top IP address associated with that online access IP address. Preferably neither the user profile information nor the electronic association of online access and set-top box IP addresses includes personally identifiable information.

A computing device carried by a user wirelessly receives product exposure data from a nearby IoT-enabled device upon entering within a certain proximity of the IoT-enabled device. The computing device further compiles the product exposure data with previous product exposure data for IoT-enabled devices to which the computing device was previously exposed. Based on the compiled product exposure data, a server device determines a frequency of exposure to a product corresponding to the IoT-enabled device over a period of time. The server device further transmits an electronic communication promoting the product corresponding to the IoT-enabled device if the frequency of exposure increases over a threshold value.

The tracking server computer then determines a merchant proximate to the predicted subsequent location of the mobile device and generates a purchase incentive for use at the merchant and delivers the purchase incentive to the mobile device. In the alternative, the incentive may be generated by a merchant computer or the mobile device.
