The present invention relates to a system and method for individuals of social network service to transmit or receive digital gift items via mobile applications connected to merchant point of sale systems. The social networking service stores data pertaining to a plurality of merchant and customers subscribing to services of a social networking service. The social networking service may receive a request from a first user to send a digital gift, which represents a good or service offered by a merchant, to a second user. The social networking service transmits a representation of the digital gift and an interactive element to a second user for enabling the second user to accept the digital gift. Upon receiving an indication that the second user has accepted the digital gift, the social networking service is configured to instantly generate a communication channel for the second user to contact the first user, and also facilitate processing of a payment associated for the digital gift.

A digital signage system provides a processor and memory; a media player for delivering content to digital signage that stores at least one playlist having media slots for playing media spots, where at least one of the media spots is a content controlling spot that includes intelligent content including attributes and attribute values for commanding control of delivery of other media spots, where the content controlling spot is configured to, upon being instigated, use the intelligent content to search for media spots to be played by the media player, identify a plurality of published media spots to be played based on a set of attributes and attribute values associated therewith, and cause one of the plurality of the published media spots to be retrieved based on the set of attributes and attribute values associated with the spot, and where the media player plays the retrieved spot on the digital signage.

Systems and methods for tracking the sales of products and presence of advertising materials within a physical store are provided. According to certain aspects, a sensor component disposed within the physical store may detect light emitted by a unique product identifier (UPI) affixed to a product. A processor of the sensor component may analyze the detected light to determine the UPIs, generate a digital representation of the UPIs within a field of view, and transmit at least a portion of the digital representation to a server computer. A plurality of sensor components may track the movement and sales of various products and presence of advertising materials in the physical store, and the server computer may analyze the resulting data to improve merchandising and the sales experience for customers, among other benefits.

A system and method is presented for product substantiation and promotion redemption. A purchased product list is transmitted from a retail store system to a promotion analysis server along with a user identifier. The promotion analysis server identifies promotions available to the user, and then considers whether the benefits under the promotions are still available to the user. Discounts for available promotions related to the purchased product list are calculated and transmitted to the retail store system for deduction from the transactions. An approved product list can be provided that filters the purchased product list before transmittal. The approved product list can include promotions from a plurality of programs.
