Methods and systems are provided herein for recommending a media asset based on a geographic location at which that media asset was frequently consumed. For example, the system may monitor a location, such as New York City or Times Square, to determine popular media assets watched there, such as The Avengers, and when another user visits New York City, the system may then notify the user that the movie, such as The Avengers, is associated with New York City. The system stores the geographic locations associated with the media asset in the database based on the consumption of the media asset so that other users may be notified which media assets are associated with each geographic location.

System for modifying and targeting advertising content of internet radio broadcasts

A radio station transmits its broadcast audio content, including audible advertisements, to listeners over the Internet via an Internet Hosting Service that provides listener access to radio station content. A computing system at the radio station digitizes the audio, and supplies marking information that identifies the beginning and duration of commercials. The digital marking information is supplied with the radio station's audio to the Internet Hosting Service. The Internet Hosting Service maintains a repository of replacement audio commercials along with information about the commercials including duration. Upon receiving the digital marker indicating the presence of a commercial, the Internet Hosting Service selects a replacement commercial of comparable duration from its repository. The Internet Hosting Service then substitutes the replacement commercial for the original broadcast commercial and produces an edited audio program for delivery to the listeners that carries advertising of higher value than the original advertising.

Timing data associated with playing media content is received from the mobile device. The playing media content is from a disconnected media outlet, where the content management server does not receive data from disconnected media outlet. Synchronizing is performed with the playing media content based on the timing data. Advertisement data associated with the playing media content is accessed. At least one synchronized advertisement is provided to the mobile device in synchronized time, where each synchronized advertisement is associated with a time code associated with the playing media content. An advertisement response from the mobile device is received. The advertisement response is associated with a selected advertisement selected from the at least one synchronized advertisement. An e-commerce transaction is initiated based on the advertisement response.
