Digital map truth maintenance
The described technology is generally directed towards digital map truth maintenance. Map inputs shared among multiple users of a shared overlay map service can have a range of credibility, from not credible to highly credible. The disclosed digital map truth maintenance technologies can be used to enhance credibility of shared map inputs. Credibility values can be calculated for map inputs, based on any of multiple factors. Map inputs having sufficiently high credibility, such as a credibility value determined to be above a threshold value, can be shared among multiple mobile devices.

A vehicle surroundings information displaying system comprises: a map image acquiring unit for acquiring a map image of the surroundings of a vehicle; a first display image generating unit for generating a first display image by combining the map image and a vehicle mark; a surroundings information image generating unit for generating a surroundings information image that shows surroundings information for the vehicle based on point cloud data that indicate distances from a vehicle, acquired by a distance sensor; an overhead image acquiring unit for acquiring an overhead image of the surroundings of the vehicle; a second display image generating unit for generating a second display image by combining the map image, the vehicle image, the overhead image, and the surroundings information image; and a display controlling unit for switching the image displayed on the display panel between the first display image and the second display image.

System for creating a surroundings model of a motor vehicle, which is or can be connected with: at least one navigation unit, which is equipped to provide information about the instantaneous position of the vehicle and information about at least one segment of road in front of the vehicle in time and space, wherein the navigation unit provides the information in a digital map format and/or in absolute position information, at least one interface, which is equipped to communicate with at least one object to be merged in the surroundings of the vehicle, wherein the information received by the interface includes absolute position information on the at least one object to be merged, and/or at least one sensor unit, which is equipped to detect at least one object to be merged in the surroundings of the vehicle, wherein the at least one sensor unit is additionally equipped to provide relative position information on the at least one object to be merged relative to the vehicle, wherein the system is equipped to ascertain the geometry of a segment of road in front of the vehicle by using the information supplied by the at least one navigation unit about the segment of road in front of the vehicle, wherein the system is equipped to merge the absolute position information and/or the relative position information on the at least one object to be merged with information provided by the at least one navigation unit in the digital map format to create a vehicle surroundings model based on the geometry of the road thereby ascertained.

The subject technology provides for visualizing a route traversed by a user during a movement event by periodically obtaining position information data from a receiver of a navigation system during a movement event. A path traversed by a user of a device that includes the receiver during the movement event is estimated based on the position information data. One or more previously mapped features within a proximity of the estimated path on a map are determined. The estimated path is matched to the map based on the previously mapped features to obtain a map-matched path. A display device is caused to render the map-matched path on an image of the map.

A method includes determining the position of the motor vehicle, identifying at least one object not relevant to road traffic as an object in the landscape in the surroundings of the motor vehicle, depending on the determined position, detecting at least the direction of view of a passenger as an occupant of the motor vehicle, and providing a display with information about the at least one object in the landscape viewed by the passenger, such that said information is provided in the direct field of view of the passenger, as defined by the direction of view of the same, in the same place as the object.
