Pipeline pressure testing accounting for measurement uncertainties

A pipeline pressure test that accounts for measurement uncertainties includes a method for performing a pressure test of a pipe section of a pipeline including receiving a desired pressure to be applied to the pipe section and a duration of time the desired pressure is to be applied to the pipe section, receiving a pressure measurement of a fluid, a temperature measurement of the fluid, a volume measurement of the fluid, and a pipe section strain measurement, determining a change in fluid pressure and a volume change, determining a pressure change uncertainty and a volume change uncertainty, checking that the pressure change uncertainty is within a pressure uncertainty threshold and that the volume change uncertainty is within a volume uncertainty threshold, determining whether the desired pressure has been applied to the inner surface of the pipe section for the duration of time; and outputting a result of the testing.

A device of the invention comprises piping for carrying liquid such as potable water within a piping network of a building, at least two control valves, a pressure transducer to measure water pressure in the piping, a flowmeter to measure water flow and a controller to control opening and closing of the control valves based on sensed pressure and measured waterflow. The controller has a processor with preprogrammed instructions for controlling conditions under which the control valves are opened and closed by command from said controller. Two programmable modes for control are provided for use in a building under construction; a rough-in operation and a normal water-on operation. Both modes have respective leak prevention logic in the controller enabling automatic operation of the control valves for effective leak prevention. The device may be employed within a communications network in which remote computers and mobile communication devices may observe and/or control operation of the device.

The present invention provides methods and apparatus for determining a fluid leakage volume in a pipeline complex, the method including providing a leakage measurement apparatus, determining a fluid flowrate through the leakage measurement apparatus and adjusting an externally controlled pressure located at a pressure point in said apparatus thereby determining said fluid leakage volume.

Leak diagnosis method and leak diagnosis device for blowby gas treatment device of internal combustion engine

A blowby gas treatment device includes a pressure control valve, a fresh air induction pipe, a first blowby gas pipe, a second blowby gas pipe, a shutoff valve, a one-way valve, and a PCV valve. A leak diagnosis includes a first-stage diagnosis to determine whether or not falling of a pressure in a crank case after closing of the shutoff valve under a non-supercharging condition is normal. A second-stage diagnosis is implemented by moving the pressure control valve from a fully opened state into a fully closed state, and determining whether an intake air quantity in each state is equal to each other. When the intake air quantity in each state is equal to each other, presence of an in-system leak is determined. When a fully closed state intake air quantity is different from a fully opened state intake air quantity, presence of an out-of-system leak is determined.
