The measuring member is constituted so that spring-shaped members can pass through an inspection detector, and the surface properties of the spring-shaped member can be evaluated and a pass/fail judgment made by a surface property inspection device based on output signals output from an AC bridge circuit while the spring-shaped member passes through the inspection detector.

The distance measurement unit measures a distance from the reference position to a subsequent reference position, at each of the timings. A difference calculator is provided which calculates a difference between the distance measured at the present time and the distance measured at the previous time, for the same reference position, and a breakage determination unit is provided which determines whether there is partial breakage, on the basis of the difference calculated by the difference calculator.

The truck mounted portable EMI assembly includes a portable EMI machine having an input port coupled to a scanning tunnel and adapted to receive a tubular for passing through the scanning tunnel, the scanning tunnel comprising an excitation coil configured to induce an eddy current in a surface of the tubular passing through the scanning tunnel, and an output port coupled to the scanning tunnel and adapted to allow the tubular to exit from the scanning tunnel, and a mechanical turntable adapted to mount the portable EMI machine on a truck and adjust an orientation of the portable EMI machine with respect to the truck. The mechanical turntable includes an upper base and a lower base coupled together.

Magnet evaluation device and method

A magnet evaluation device is provided for evaluating a magnet having at least two magnetic pieces bonded to an insulating material sandwiched between two adjacent ones of the magnetic pieces. The magnet evaluation device has an excitation coil and a detection coil. The excitation coil is configured to generate a magnetic field that has a size in a range that corresponds to a region including the insulating material. The detection coil has a coil diameter that is smaller than a length of one of the magnetic pieces in a direction in which the magnetic pieces are aligned.

Method for detecting and/or preventing grind burn

The present disclosure provides a method of detecting and preventing grind burn from developing on a gear. The method includes performing acoustic emission testing while the gear is being ground during a grinding operation. The grinding wheel is evaluated during an eddy current test to detect material buildup on the grinding wheel which could cause grind burn. In addition, the method includes collecting swarf from the gear during the grinding operation and inspecting the swarf for an indication of grind burn.
