Sensor and method for detecting combustible gas
Sensors and methods for detecting combustible gases in a gas mixture are disclosed based on combustion catalyst compositions comprising an amount of a precious metal supported on an ion-exchangeable alkali metal titanate substrate. The sensors and methods are particularly useful for measuring the concentration of combustible gases in low temperature and high humidity conditions. Advantageously, certain embodiments can selectively measure the concentration of select species (e.g. ethylene).
Systems and methods for securely monitoring a shipping container for an environmental anomaly
Systems and methods are described for securely monitoring a shipping container for an environmental anomaly using elements of a wireless node network of sensor-based ID nodes disposed within the container and a command node associated with the container. The method has the command node identifying which of the ID nodes are confirmed as trusted sensors based upon a security credential specific to each of the ID nodes; monitoring only the confirmed ID nodes for sensor data broadcast those ID nodes; detecting the anomaly based upon the sensor data from at least one of the confirmed ID nodes; automatically generating an alert notification related to the detected environmental anomaly for the shipping container; and transmitting the alert notification to the external transceiver to initiate a mediation response related to the detected environmental anomaly.
System for measuring a parameter with an electrical meter
A system and method for measuring a parameter level is provided. The system including an electricity meter, the meter having an electricity measurement sensor having a source side and a load side. A socket and a collar are provided. The collar being electrically connected between the socket and the electricity meter, the collar having at least one first connector for a first phase of electricity and at least one second connector for a second phase of electricity, the first connector and second connector being electrically coupled to the load side, and a sensor electrically connected to at least one of the at least one first connector and the at least one second connector.
Gas sensor
A gas sensor for sensing a gas in a humid environment includes a first electrode layer, a second electrode layer that is spaced apart from the first electrode layer, and a gas sensing layer that electrically interconnects the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer. The gas sensing layer is made of a hygroscopic electrically insulating material.
DETECTING LIFE BY MEANS OF CO2 IN AN ENCLOSED VOLUME
In a system and method for detecting carbon dioxide in an enclosed volume, a CO2 detection system is triggered to awaken from a deep sleep state. Once awake, the system queries system sensors to determine the current system parameters, including current CO2 level and temperature. Current and expected CO2 decay rates are calculated, and the system determines whether the current CO2 decay rate is within an expected normal range for an unoccupied enclosed volume. If the volume is static, i.e., not moving, and the CO2 rate is rising and the temperature is rising, a series of alerts are sent to contacts previously set up by the user. If the alerts are not cleared by a user, emergency management personnel are notified.
GAS DETECTION USING DIFFERENTIAL PATH LENGTH MEASUREMENT
Device for improving an optical detecting smoke apparatus and implementing thereof. Apparatus and methods for detecting the presence of smoke in a small, long-lasting smoke detector are (disclosed. Specifically, the present disclosure shows how to build one or more optimized blocking members in a smoke detector to augment signal to noise ratio. This is performed while keeping the reflections from the housing structure to a very low value while satisfying all the other peripheral needs of fast response to smoke and preventing ambient light. This allows very small measurements of light scattering of the smoke particles to be reliable in a device resistant to the negative effects of dust. In particular, geometrical optical elements, e.g., cap and optical defection elements, are disclosed.
AN INTRUSION DETECTOR FOR A LORRY
For various political, commercial and humanitarian reasons there is a desire to detect intrusion of stowaways into lorries and other freight vehicles. Many traditional intrusion detectors operate on the bases of detecting an increase in carbon dioxide within a space as indicator of presence of a human. A problem arises when the freight vehicle is carrying perishable goods such as fruits and vegetables which give off CO.sub.2 as they perish which makes it difficult to reliably attribute the cause of an elevation in CO.sub.2 concentration.
An embodiment of the invention overcomes this problem by detecting a sudden decrease in CO.sub.2 concentration within the freight vehicle from a concentration that is much elevated from a background atmospheric concentration of around 400 ppm. This sudden decrease can be attributed to opening of a door of a trailer allowing the escape of CO.sub.2 that has built up as the freight perishes.
