A fixing device includes an endless belt; a driving rotatable member cooperative with the endless belt to form a nip for fixing a toner image on a recording material and for driving the endless belt; an urging member provided inside the endless belt to urge the endless belt toward the driving rotatable member; and a rubbing rotatable member for rubbing an outer surface of the endless belt.

In an image forming apparatus, a fixing member has a surface layer having conductivity. A developer is a toner having a toner particle including a binder resin, a reactant of a polyhydric acid and a compound containing a group 4 element is present on a surface of the toner particle, and Tv/Fv>100 is satisfied where Tv represents a volume resistivity upon being unfixed, and Fv represents a volume resistivity after fixing. A bias applying unit can selectively apply a bias of a positive polarity and a bias of a negative polarity, and applies a bias of the same polarity as the charged polarity of a filler included in a recording material when the recording material passes through a fixing nip portion, and when the recording material does not pass through the fixing nip portion, respectively.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device that forms a toner image on a recording medium, a first rotator, and a second rotator that presses against the first rotator to form a nip therebetween. The first rotator conveys the recording medium bearing the toner image through the nip with a first orientation of the recording medium to fix the toner image on the recording medium to create a cleaning sheet bearing a cleaning image in a cleaning sheet creation mode. The first rotator conveys the cleaning sheet bearing the cleaning image through the nip with a second orientation of the cleaning sheet, that is different from the first orientation of the recording medium, such that the cleaning image is disposed opposite the first rotator to cause the cleaning image to remove a foreign substance from a surface of the first rotator in a cleaning mode.

A fixing device includes a fixing roller that fixes a toner image to a recording medium; a cleaning roller that contacts the fixing roller and rotates, and cleans off toner adhered to a surface of the fixing roller; and a collecting roller that contacts the cleaning roller and rotates, and collects toner adhered to a surface of the cleaning roller, the collecting roller including an air passage section that extends through the collecting roller in an axial direction of the collecting roller and through which air passes.

Disclosed herein are methods for an ink-based digital printing system, comprising providing an imaging member a reimageable surface layer disposed on a structural mounting layer, the reimageable surface layer comprising a fluorosilicone elastomer and an infrared-absorbing filler comprising carbon black, and a plurality of surface defects on the reimageable surface layer, wherein the surface defects comprises carbon black exposed through the fluorosilicone elastomer of the reimageable surface layer. The method also comprises applying a coating of rejuvenating oil comprising an amino-functional organopolysiloxane to the reimageable surface layer, whereby at least a portion of the plurality of surface defects are coated by the amino-functional organopolysiloxane, thereby rejuvenating the imaging member.

A heating device includes a cylindrical body with a hollow interior and a heater inside the hollow interior. A first surface of the heater faces the inner surface of the cylindrical body. A heat transfer member is on a second surface of the heater. A grease is between the heater and the heat transfer member. A support member is provided including a first portion fixed to the second surface of the heater and a second portion contacting a surface of the heat transfer member. The support member includes a third portion between the first and second portions. The third portion does not contact the second surface of the heater between the first and second portions and provides a space for grease from between the heater and the heat transfer member to accumulate.

An image forming apparatus includes a heating rotary member, a pressure rotary member, a nip portion formed by the rotary members, a temperature adjustment control section controlling a temperature of the heating rotary member to a target temperature, a cleaning web removing toner adhering to the heating rotary member, and a controller selectively executing one of a cleaning mode and a non-cleaning mode. A first basis weight and a second basis weight greater than the first predetermined basis weight are set, in a job that mixedly uses recording media with the first and second basis weights. When the controller executes the non-cleaning mode, the temperature adjustment control section sets a target temperature of a recording medium with a basis weight less than or equal to the first basis weight to a temperature lower than a target temperature of the recording medium in the cleaning mode.

A pressing device includes a rotator, a secured member, a pressure rotator, and lubricant. The rotator has flexibility and a sleeve form and includes an inner portion having a sliding surface. The inner portion has an elastic power of 55% or more. The secured member is inside a loop of the rotator and has a slide surface on which the sliding surface of the rotator is to slide. The slide surface has a smaller surface roughness than a surface roughness of the sliding surface. The pressure rotator presses the rotator against the secured member and forms a nip between the rotator and the pressure rotator. The lubricant between the rotator and the secured member has a consistency of 275 or less.

An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a control unit 111 which performs white paper cleaning by making remaining papers pass through a fixing device in automatic purge of conveying and discharging the remaining papers after an originating paper having caused a jam is removed when the jam has occurred in a paper conveyance path, and display units 115 and 111 which display the number of papers, which is obtained by subtracting the number of the papers having passed through the fixing device by the control unit for the white paper cleaning in the automatic purge from the set number of papers set in advance as the number of papers required to pass through the fixing device in the white paper cleaning, as the number of papers set for white paper cleaning after the automatic purge.

A locking arm for locking a cleaning unit using a cleaning sheet, a sensor for detecting a remaining amount of the cleaning sheet, a CPU for prohibiting an image forming operation depending on an output of the sensor, and an interrelating arm acting on the sensor so as to prohibit the image forming operation when locking by the locking arm is in an unlocked state.
