Selectable Write Paths With Different Formatted Data
A storage system has a first memory, and a second memory that includes storage memory. The storage system has a processing device. The processing device is to select whether to write data to the first memory and write the data from the first memory to the second memory, or to write the data to the second memory bypassing the first memory. The processing device is to write portions of data for storage according to such selection.
Implementing automatic rate control in a memory sub-system
A processing device in a memory system identifies, while the memory device is in a first state condition, a plurality of workload conditions associated with the memory device, wherein the plurality of workload conditions comprise data reflecting a performance condition of the memory device. The processing device determines, while the memory device is in the first state condition, a host rate of a host system write performance for the memory device based on one or more workload conditions of the plurality of workload conditions. The processing device determines that one or more workload conditions of the plurality of workload conditions satisfies a first threshold criterion. Responsive to determining that the one or more workload conditions of the plurality of workload conditions satisfies the first threshold criterion, the processing device detects a change in a condition of the memory device from the first state to a second state. The processing device determines, while the memory device is in the second state condition, an adjusted host rate based on the host rate and a calculated adjustment value. The processing device uses the adjusted host rate to determine a credit consuming rate for a host write operation for the memory device.
Emulating memory sub-systems that have different performance characteristics
A system and method for updating a configuration of a host system so that the memory sub-system of the host system emulates performance characteristics of a target memory sub-system. An example system determining a configuration of the host system, the host system comprising a memory sub-system; receiving, by a processing device, a request to emulate a characteristic of a target memory sub-system; analyzing a plurality of candidate configurations for the host system, wherein the plurality of candidate configurations comprises a candidate configuration that generates a load on the memory sub-system to decrease characteristics of the memory sub-system; and updating the configuration of the host system based on the plurality of candidate configurations, wherein the updated configuration changes the memory sub-system to emulate the characteristic of the target memory sub-system.
MEMORY SUB-SYSTEM PERFORMANCE SHAPING
A method includes determining, by component of a memory sub-system, workload characteristics corresponding to a workload to be received by the memory sub-system. The method can further include dynamically altering a performance attribute of the memory sub-system based, at least in part, based on the determined workload characteristics.
Storing data sequentially in zones in a dispersed storage network
A method for execution by a storage unit in a dispersed storage network (DSN) includes selecting a storage zone of a memory device of the storage unit based on zone allocation parameters, and designating the selected storage zone as open for writes. A data slice is received via a network for storage. The data slice is written sequentially at a memory location of the one of storage zone based on determining that the storage zone is designated as open for writes. A pointer corresponding to the data slice that indicates the storage zone and the memory location is generated. A read request is received via the network from a requesting entity that indicates the data slice. The data slice is retrieved from the memory device based on the pointer, and is transmitted to the requesting entity.
High-availability storage array
A method of operating a storage system is disclosed. The method includes determining a storage cluster among storage arrays of the storage system. Each storage array includes at least two controllers and at least one storage shelf. The at least two controllers are configured to function as both a primary controller for a first storage array and a secondary controller for a second storage array.
Intelligent Storage of Messages in Page Sets
Intelligent storage of messages is provided. A spill-over page set is selected to store received messages corresponding to a predefined target page set associated with an application workload in response to the predefined target page set reaching a predefined minimum unused page threshold level. The spill-over page set is utilized as a message storage destination for the received messages corresponding to the predefined target page set associated with the application workload to extend message storage for the predefined target page set after the predefined target page set reached the predefined minimum unused page threshold level.
PROCESSING PAGES MARKED FOR DELETION
A technique for managing a mapping structure in a data storage system includes identifying levels in the mapping structure of pages to be removed and estimating the workload required for removing the pages based at least in part on the identified levels. The technique further includes initiating processing of the pages based at least in part on the estimated workload.
READINESS STATES FOR PARTITIONED INTERNAL RESOURCES OF A MEMORY CONTROLLER
Apparatus, systems, and methods are presented for controlling readiness states for partitioned internal resources of a memory controller. The controller may include at least one internal hardware resource that is partitioned so that readiness states for individual partitions of the internal hardware resource are individually controllable. The controller may determine a value for a parameter that corresponds to upcoming workload for the controller. The controller may compare the value to a set of thresholds. The controller may control the readiness states for the partitions of the internal hardware resource based on the comparison of the parameter to the set of thresholds.
Code execution environment customization system for object storage service
Systems and methods are described for modifying input and output (I/O) to an object storage service by implementing one or more owner-specified functions to I/O requests. Such functions can include data access control functions, data manipulation functions, and the like. The owner of an object collection maintained by the object storage service can specify code execution environment rules that can give privileges to the execution of such functions such as by allowing the functions to access external services or the requesting user's private resources. In this manner, owners of the object collection are provided with greater control over how the object collection is accessed.
