The subject technology provides a portion of the functionality of an application on an electronic device on which the application is not installed. The portion of the functionality of the application is provided by a clip of the application that can be obtained, installed, and launched on the user device, at the time the functionality is desired by a user, and without authenticating information for the user. The clip of the application can provide the user with access to a purchase function, an ordering function, or any other sub-function of the application. When the application itself is installed on the device, the clip of the application can be deleted while preserving access, by the application, to data generated on the device by the clip.

An optical code scanner being operated using an algorithm is provided. The scanner may scan an optical label. The label may include machine-readable code. The scanner may derive a single set of instructions from the code or multiple sets of instructions from the code. The scanner may process the code. The processing may upload a set of instructions from the code to the scanner and store the set of instructions in an instructions library. The scanner may also derive a picture associated with the instructions and store the picture in the library. The scanner may display a plurality of pictures. Each of the pictures may correspond to a set of uploaded instructions stored on the scanner. Each of the plurality of pictures may be selectable by a user. In response to a user selection of a picture, the scanner may be configured to execute the uploaded instructions that correspond to the selected picture.

A computer system including a server having a processor and a memory, the memory having a video database and a music database, the video database storing at least one video file having a plurality of video file markers, and the music database storing at least one music file having a plurality of music file markers, wherein the server receives and decodes encoded data from computer readable code, identifies and retrieves from the music database a music file based on the decoded data, synchronizes the retrieved music file with one of the video files by aligning the video file markers of the video file with the music file markers for the retrieved music file to produce a synchronized video-music file, and transmits the synchronized video-music file to a display, wherein the video file markers are generated for each video file and the music file markers are generated for each music file.

The method includes receiving an information access address returned through the network by the server, and generating a 2D barcode including the information access address. The method further includes acquiring a 2D barcode including an information access address and scanning the 2D barcode to obtain the information access address included in the 2D barcode, the information access address being for accessing private information. The method further includes sending the information access address to a server through a network, and receiving the private information returned through the network by the server, and using the private information as a reading result of the 2D barcode.

An electronic and paper combined data submission, printing, and retrieval method includes: completing an application in a client terminal, sending the user-entered data in the client terminal to a remote storage server; printing the completed application together with a barcode containing a unique identification code; retrieving the electronic data stored in the remote storage server by scanning said identification code. An imager module for an optical code reader may include a camera comprising a lens system, and an actuator for moving the lens system operatively connected to the lens system for autofocus adjustment. The actuator for moving the lens system comprises a linear electric motor with a drive shaft, a position sensor device adapted to detect the position of the drive shaft within a predefined stroke length and a control device adapted to control the movement of the drive shaft. The control device and the position sensor device are integrated in a single PCB, the electric motor comprises a frame that supports the drive shaft, and the single PCB constitutes part of said frame.
