A method and a system are provided for optimizing battery usage of an electronic device. The method comprises determining, by a battery optimization unit, a degree of criticality of environment in which one or more sensors are operating based on one or more pre-defined conditions. The method further comprises determining, by the battery optimization unit, a plurality of parameters comprising an energy level of the electronic device, an available processing power, and an available communication network bandwidth associated with the electronic device. The method further comprises processing, by the battery optimization unit, a first portion of sensor data locally based on the degree of criticality of environment and a priority based rule engine, wherein the priority based rule engine is configured to optimize battery usage of the electronic device based on the plurality of parameters.

Image processing sensor systems

An image processing sensor system functions as a standalone unit to capture images and process the resulting signals to detect objects or events of interest. The processing significantly improves selectivity and specificity of detection objects and events in a series of motions that may precede a patient who is at elevated risk of falling.

Example implementations include a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium comprising monitoring, by a control panel, an ambient noise via one or more microphones in the control panel. The implementations further include determining, by the control panel, whether the ambient noise includes an acoustic signature associated with a security event. In some implementations, the security event may comprise a glass break event. In some implementations, the acoustic signature may comprise a first sound followed by subsequent sounds. The first sound may comprise a thump sound, and the subsequent sounds may comprise crashing sounds.

Method and system for conveying data from monitored scene via surveillance cameras

A system and method for monitoring sensors via surveillance cameras is disclosed. In the system, surveillance cameras generating image data of scenes, where the sensors are included in the scenes. The sensors detect information concerning the scenes and encode the information so that it can be derived from the image data. Preferably, the sensors encode the information concerning the scenes by modulating a visible light source, the signals of which are captured within the image data by the cameras. An analytics system then analyzes the image data and decodes the information from the sensors encoded within the image data. Preferably, an integrated analytics system of the cameras executes the analysis. Exemplary sensors include sensors for detecting temperature, moisture, audio/voice, and product selection in a retail premises.

Systems and methods for categorizing motion events

The various embodiments described herein include methods, devices, and systems for categorizing motion events. In one aspect, a method is performed at a camera device. The method includes: (1) capturing a plurality of video frames via the image sensor, the plurality of video frames corresponding to a scene in a field of view of the camera; (2) sending the video frames to the remote server system in real-time; (3) while sending the video frames to the remote server system in real-time: (a) determining that motion has occurred within the scene; (b) in response to determining that motion has occurred within the scene, characterizing the motion as a motion event; and (c) generating motion event metadata for the motion event; and (4) sending the generated motion event metadata to the remote server system concurrently with the video frames.

Virtual sensor technology, in which a camera is controlled to capture at least one configuration image of an area monitored by a monitoring system and input is received that defines one or more characteristics of the at least one configuration image that enable sensing of an event in the area. Based on the received input, configuration data used in sensing the event is generated and stored. After storage of the configuration data, the camera is controlled to capture one or more images of the area, the one or more images are analyzed based on the configuration data, and occurrence of the event is detected based on the analysis of the one or more images. Based on detecting occurrence of the event, a transmitting device is controlled to send, to a controller of the monitoring system, a signal that indicates the detection of the occurrence of the event.
