The approach involves identifying a landmark located along a source road from a source image and segmenting the source image using a deep learning model to identify a segmentation mask. The approach also involves generating a template image based on the segmentation mask and a street image of the landmark, and matching the template image successively with a sequence of images of the landmark to determine a confidence score. The approach further involves, identifying a first image from the sequence of images with confidence score below a predetermined threshold, and selecting a second image with confidence score above the predetermined threshold from the sequence of images. The approach further involves calculating a visibility distance of the landmark based on the source image and the second image, and generating the navigation data based on the calculated visibility distance.

The mapping application in some embodiments differentiates the appearance of the traffic congestion representation that signifies heavy traffic congestion from the appearance of the traffic congestion representation that signifies moderate traffic congestion. In some of these embodiments, the mapping application does not generate a traffic congestion representation for areas along a road that are not congested.

Historical sensor data (e.g., including heart rate data, exterior vehicle noise level data, accelerometer data) and traffic data associated with route segments of each of the routes may be analyzed to identify indications of calmness associated with each route segment. Current traffic data associated with the route segments may be analyzed to assign a traffic score representing a level of congestion along the segment and corresponding to a level of insurance risk associated with traversing the segment. Based at least in part upon the indications of calmness and the traffic score associated with each route segment, a route may be selected and presented to the user.

The location data of the account holder can be compared with one or more locations (e.g., pickup or drop off location) associated with the requested ride. Based at least in part on the comparisons between the location data of the account holder and the one or more locations associated with the requested ride, the system can determine with a particular degree of certainty whether the rider is the guest rider or the account holder.
