Fluidic devices and methods using them
A laminated microfluidic device is described that includes an internal microchannel formed from laminating individual layers of the laminated microfluidic device to each other. The laminated microfluidic device also includes a first port, a second port, a third port, and a fourth port each fluidically coupled to the internal microchannel. The laminated microfluidic device permits flow of sample into the laminated microfluidic device through the first port. The laminated microfluidic device fluidically couples to an external pressure source through the second port. The laminated microfluidic device permits the flow of the sample to a first component fluidically coupled to the third port and to a second component fluidically coupled to the fourth port depending on pressure within the internal microchannel of the laminated microfluidic device.
Gas analyte spectrum sharpening and separation with multi-dimensional micro-GC for gas chromatography analysis
The disclosure describes embodiments of an apparatus including a first gas chromatograph including a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and a first temperature control. A controller is coupled to the first temperature control and includes logic to apply a first temperature profile to the first temperature control to heat, cool, or both heat and cool the first gas chromatograph. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
LIGAND ASSISTED CHROMATOGRAPHY FOR METAL ION SEPARATION
A method of producing substantially pure rare earth elements (REEs) from a mixture, including the steps of dissolving a mixture containing REEs in a strong acid to result in a dissolved mixture of metal ions, including that of REEs, capturing metal ions of REEs in a first set of chromatographic columns comprising strong acid cation exchange resins, washing said first set of chromatographic columns with a salt solution to remove non-adsorbing metal ions, eluting metal ions of REES from said first set of chromatographic columns with a first ligand solution to result in a solution of enriched metal ions of REEs, loading said solution of enriched metal ions of REEs onto a second set of chromatographic columns, and eluting bound metal ions of REEs stepwise from said second set of chromatographic columns using a second ligand solution to afford a substantially pure REE. The second set of chromatographic columns comprises hydrous polyvalent metal oxide selected from the group consisting of TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, or SnO.sub.2. The ligand of the second ligand solution coordinates with said hydrous polyvalent metal oxide.
Compact gas analysis device and method
A gas analysis device suited for e.g. medical analysis of exhaled breath from a subject. A gas inlet receives a gas sample to a flow path for guiding the gas sample to two or more gas separators, e.g. gas chromatography columns, with respective molecule selectivity properties which are different. One or more detectors, each with a sensor, are arranged to generate respective responses to outputs from the two or more gas separators. A communication module generate output data in response to the respective responses from the one or more detectors, e.g. data indicative of selected molecules in the gas sample, e.g. data indicative of one or more diseases identified as a result of identified biomarkers in the gas sample. The device is suitable as a compact device, e.g. a handheld breath analysis device, since the use of a plurality of gas separators allows use of very molecule specific gas separators which can be implemented with a small size. E.g. a flow path with several parallel paths each comprising one or more gas separator may be used.
Method of resolving defined known or suspected allergens in a complex mixture of perfume ingredients, and compositions
Analytical methods that can be employed to reliably separate known or suspected allergens in a complex mixture of fragrance ingredients are described.
Dual-Column LC-MS System and Methods of Use Thereof
Methods for achieving complete sequence coverage of monoclonal antibodies by trypsin digestion and dual-column LC-MS system are provided. The disclosed method improves upon current techniques for standard peptide mapping.
Liquid chromatograph
The liquid chromatograph is provided with: a first dimension analysis unit; a diluent determination unit configured to determine the composition and flow rate of a diluent for diluting an eluent flowing out of the first dimension analysis unit based on the composition of the eluent flowing from the first dimension analysis unit; and a diluent liquid delivery unit configured to deliver the diluent of the composition determined by the diluent determination unit at the flow rate determined by the diluent determination unit so as to be delivered to the trap column while diluting the eluent flowing from the first dimension analysis unit.
Thermal modulator
A method for modulating analytes in a gaseous stream passing through a capillary, wherein the analytes are retained in a trapping zone of the capillary, or allowed to pass therethrough, based on certain conditions. The method includes, during a first time period, heating the trapping zone of the capillary to a first temperature to desorb analytes therewithin and allow the analytes to pass therethrough, and during a second time period, cooling the capillary to a second temperature that is sufficient to trap and focus the analytes within the trapping zone. During the first time period, the method also includes retaining heat at the capillary during to minimize the load on a cooling device thermally connected thereto, and during the second time period, selectively allowing thermal transfer toward the cooling device.
