Gut microbiota and treatment of cancer

The ubiquitin ligase, RNF5, regulates the gut microbiota composition and influences the immune checkpoint response to tumors. RNF5 deficient animals exhibit significant inhibition of tumor development as well as an altered gut microbiota composition. Methods of treating cancer by administering to a subject one or more selected bacterial species and/or one or more prebiotics that promote the growth of one or more selected bacterial species are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of treating cancer by administering to a subject one or more selected bacterial species and/or one or more prebiotics that promote the growth of one or more selected bacterial species in combination with one or more anti-cancer agents.

This invention relates generally to compositions and methods for increasing the efficacy of immunotherapies and vaccines. In particular, the present invention relates to elevating the richness and diversity of a subject's gut microbiome through administration of an agent (e.g., fiber containing prebiotic agent (e.g., epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), fucoidan, potato starch, oligofructose and inulin)) (e.g., melatonin) with an immunotherapy or vaccine. Such compositions and methods are useful for treating cancer, infectious pathogens, autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, and/or obesity.

Administration of synergistic amounts of modified citrus pectin and honokiol to treat inflammation and anti-oxidant needs
11596647 · 2023-03-07 · ·

A method of inhibiting or reducing inflammation in a mammal comprises administering MCP or similar Gal-3 binding moiety with honokiol in a range of about 8-10:1, by weight, MCP to honokiol. By pursuing complimentary pathways, a synergistic combination is achieved, where the reduction or degree of inflammation inhibition is greater than would be expected by the added administration of these two agents. The inflammation may be manifested as gingivitis, which may be addressed by a preparation comprising honokiol and MCP, or an MCP equivalent, in the indicated range by weight, where they are in the form of an oral rinse, lozenge, sucking candy, toothpaste or tablet.
